Name:
Ganondorf Dragmire
Game of Origin:
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii, GC)
Nicknames:
Evil King/King of Evil, Accursed One, King of Thieves, Gerudo King, Mister Badass
Age:
Ganondorf has lived for at least 120 years, since he was 20 at the start of Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess occurs a century later.
Species:
Gerudo (Hyrulian subset). This species is distinguished by rounded ears, bronzed skin, flaming red hair, and the tendency to be all-female save for one person, the species’ King.
Gender:
Male. Doesn’t mind proving it, either.
Alignment:
Chaotic Evil
Type:
Heavyweight
Residence:
Gerudo Desert outskirts, driven there after his defeat by Link
Personal Relationships (optional):
Link
Despite being hated adversaries since their first meeting, Ganondorf and Link share a deep and unbreakable bond thanks to the powerful magical artifact called the Triforce. This item has three parts, named Courage, Wisdom, and Power. Ganondorf carries the Power segment, and Link carries Courage.
Zelda
Zelda carries the third part of the Triforce, Wisdom. When all three parts of the Triforce work in unison, it is rumored that untold power may be unleashed, the power to change worlds and reshape reality.
This translates into a particularly devastating Final Smash when Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf work together as a team. However, it is nigh-impossible to accomplish this due to the sheer loathing Link and Zelda share against Ganondorf, and he against them.
Toon Link
Ganondorf met a little boy during the Subspace War who shows more than a passing resemblance to Link...and he also carries another Master Sword with him. Since there is only one Blade of Evil's Bane, the logical conclusion is that this boy was either from the past or the future, brought to the present time through Master Hand's omnipotence. Ganondorf has chosen to adopt a "wait-and-see" attitude towards the deformed lad, not making any aggressive moves as of yet. But if Toon Link crosses him, well, that's an entirely different matter.
Occupation:
King of the Gerudo and Wannabe Conqueror
Moveset:
To the layman, Ganondorf may at first glance appear to be a Captain Falcon clone. However, the development team behind Brawl made a huge effort to give Ganondorf’s moveset some individualism, and they succeeded. As such, Ganondorf operates far differently than Falcon does.
PROPERTIES
-Ganondorf wears full plate armor at all times, in case he should get attacked unawares. The armor has been magically enhanced to be bulletproof, fireproof, and waterproof, and negates most projectiles.
-Ganondorf’s armor is weak to Light energy, and Zelda’s final smash is particularly devastating to it.
-Ganondorf’s armor is extremely heavy, making him one of the slowest and heaviest fighters in Brawl’s roster.
-Ganondorf uses dark magic to enhance his attacks. This makes him one of the most powerful and hard-hitting characters in Brawl, if he manages to actually hit someone.
-Due to the immense weight of his armor, the average vertical distance of Ganondorf’s jumps is around half his height – very low for a Smasher.
SPECIALS
<Neutral Special: Warlock Punch>
Ganondorf summons a huge burst of dark energy into his hand, and punches forward while releasing it.
-This attack is tremendously slow, but also a guaranteed KO at anything except the lowest of damage percentages.
<Up Special: Dark Dive>
Ganondorf uses levitation to leap upwards much higher than would normally be possible for him, and swipes a fist laced with dark energy in front of his face.
If Ganondorf collides with anyone during his ascent, he’ll shock them with electricity before releasing them in a damaging explosion of darkness.
If the opponent is too far away to be grabbed, they can still be hurt by the darkness in Ganondorf’s hand.
<Side Special: Flame Choke>
Ganondorf uses levitation to propel himself forward at high speed with his hand held out in front of him. If he hits anyone while doing this, he’ll grab them and lift them into the air by their neck. Ganondorf will then channel a surge of dark flames into his hand that will slam the opponent into the ground when unleashed.
If Ganondorf uses this move in the air, any enemies he encounters will be promptly chokeslammed.
-If there is no ground underneath Ganondorf while he is chokeslamming someone from the air, both he and his opponent will drop like rocks until they exit the stage – a Double KO, basically. This is a nice suicide move for when Ganondorf has been greatly damaged and is against an undamaged opponent.
<Down Special: Wizard’s Foot>
Ganondorf again uses levitation to thrust his body forwards at high speed, but this time he does so foot-first.
-This is Ganondorf’s primary method for traveling over land quickly.
-When Ganondorf uses this move in the air, he descends at a very steep, almost vertical decline to slam into the ground. Any opponents under him will be hit twice, by the impact with his foot and by his landing.
Final Smash:
BEAST GANON
Through the power of the Triforce piece he wields, Ganondorf can change into a form that reflects his dark heart. Beast Ganon is invincible save for a small weak point on its underbelly, inaccessible unless Ganon is first stunned and knocked down. To prevent this from happening, Ganondorf only stays in this form for small periods of time.
When Ganondorf grabs a Smash Ball, he changes into this form, roars loudly, and performs a large stomp with his front legs which stuns all opponents in front of him. He then charges forward into them for massive damage and one-hit KOs.
Weaknesses:
PHYSICAL
-Ganondorf hits like a tank and moves about as fast as one, too. A snail could beat him in a footrace, to say nothing of every other Smasher in existence.
-Though his armor provides an excellent defense most of the time, it is also cumbersome and clunky, not to mention immensely heavy; while wearing it, Ganondorf weighs about as much as Bowser or DK.
-Due to the aforementioned weight of his armor and the restrictions it places on his movement, Ganondorf must use levitating magic (i.e. special moves) to achieve any sort of agility.
-Ganondorf cannot swim longer than a couple seconds; his armor makes him sink like a rock.
-Ganondorf’s jump height is absolutely pitiful; not even the strongest leg muscles can make up for his armor’s sheer weight.
MENTAL
-Ganondorf has problems with overconfidence. He tends to underestimate his opponents, which has led to his defeat on many an occasion at Link’s hands.
-Ganondorf has a MASSIVE ego and a prideful streak that is a mile wide. He does not take insults lightly.
-Ganondorf keeps grudges. He does not forgive; he does not forget.
Personality:
Ganondorf is an evil, selfish bastard. He doesn’t believe himself to be evil, merely an instrument of the Gerudo race’s will, but his secret lust for power and ends-justify-the-means attitude has led him to perform unspeakably evil acts during his lifetime. He is cunning and intelligent, with a brilliant tactical mind that led to huge victories during the Great War of Hyrule (see History). He has a “use-‘em-and-lose-‘em” outlook on other races such as the Twili and only truly holds respect for the Gerudo race alone. He is absolutely merciless and holds no sympathy for conquered peoples, taking their money and belongings for his own while they starve to death. He is prone to fits of rage when he does not get his way, peppered equally with cursing and acts of violence; Link provoked many a tirade during their war against one another.

Appearance:
Ganondorf’s appearance during the events of Ocarina of Time.
Ganondorf’s new appearance for Twilight Princess and for Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
In Twilight Princess, Ganondorf was over ten feet tall. In This World, his size has been reduced to around six feet, on par with most of the other fighters.
History:
PRE-OoT
Once, in a time long since lost from memory and only known within the dusty pages of books, the Gerudo were the dominant race of Hyrule. They spanned from border to border, subjecting the lesser races to their iron-fisted will and hoarding all of the kingdom’s most precious treasures for their own.
But over time, the Gerudo grew lax in their dominance. As peace prevailed under their leadership, the race stopped training their warriors and reduced their security to a paltry fraction of its former might. This mistake came back to haunt them, when the Hylians rose up in civil war and took the kingdom for their own, driving the Gerudo into the harsh, unforgiving desert lands west of the kingdom. In the process, a Hylian mage also cursed the race’s bloodline, making it so there would be only a single Gerudo male born every generation. Considering the long lifespan of the Gerudo, this wound up being roughly one male every hundred years.
Scattered, disarraryed, and on the brink of extinction, the Gerudo were forced to band together and carve out a hard life amidst rocks and sand. Traditions were made, and laws were formed; the one Gerudo male per generation would be King of the race, and would guide the females to honor and glory.
OCARINA OF TIME
Ganondorf was the 225th King of the Gerudo. His father, Raneses II, was a fierce and courageous warrior who held the Gerudo in high esteem. He made sure to pass down their oral history to his son, describing their former glory and how the Hylians humiliated them, punishing them for their hubris.
As Ganondorf grew, he began to feel hatred blossom in his heart for the Hylians, who had grown fat and sated on the peaceful grassy fields of Hyrule during the years since their coup. He vowed to retake what he considered the rightful property of the Gerudo, and to show the Hylians what it felt like to barely eke out a living in an unforgiving environment. He would drive them into the desert and have them suffer as his ancestors had, at any cost.
The opportunity soon came when a new civil war broke out within Hyrule, stemming from trade disagreements between the other races that lived there, the Gorons, Hylians, and Zora. Ganondorf saw this war -- the Great War of Hyrule -- as an opportunity to form an exploitable friendship with the Hylian king, and went to aid him during the conflict.
As predicted, the King appreciated the help and formed an official alliance with the Gerudo after the war had settled. Ganondorf was now allowed within the opulent castle of the Hylians as a guest. He took this opportunity to peruse the castle’s vast library and learn all he could of the Hylians’ history, hoping against hope to locate a possible weakness in their defenses that he could use.
He found far more than he bargained for. The books told of the legendary Triforce, a magical artifact of immense power said to have been given to the Hylians by the Three Goddesses who had created the kingdom. Whoever held the Triforce, it was said, could have their deepest desires granted.
Ganondorf soon became obsessed with learning more about the Triforce. He sought out every scholar, scribe, and priest who might have any possible knowledge of the artifact, and from them eventually learned that the Triforce lay within an alternate dimension known as the Sacred Realm. Passage there was secured by a system of locks, and the keys to open them were three Sacred Stones and a magical instrument called the Ocarina of Time, passed down as an heirloom within the Hylian royal family. Only when all four keys were used together could the door to the Sacred Realm be opened.
Thus began Ganondorf’s quest to find the stones, each given to one of Hyrule’s other races, and the Ocarina of Time, which was in the keeping of the young Princess Zelda, age 10 at that time. When the Gorons and Zora refused to hand over their stones, he left lieutenants to help persuade them otherwise; monstrous evil creatures born of black magic that blocked the Gorons’ food supply and struck the Zora’s patron deity with illness. A third race dwelt deep within the forests on Hyrule’s southern border; a race of eternal children, called the Kokiri. They were guarded by a forest spirit called the Great Deku Tree, and when he too refused to give Ganondorf their race’s stone, the Gerudo King unleashed a parasite within the tree’s interior.
Believing it to be only a matter of time now until the races gave in to his demands, Ganondorf turned his attention to Princess Zelda and the Ocarina she kept hidden. He began pressuring her to give it to him, but she was firm and would not yield. In the end, Ganondorf concluded that drastic measures were necessary.
It was a dark and stormy night when Ganondorf finally put his plans into action, staging a coup right in the middle of Hyrule Castle. The King was killed, along with most of his soldiers, and Zelda only barely managed to escape thanks to her annoyingly-alert bodyguard, a Shiekah named Impa. Ganondorf chased after them on horseback, but lost track of them right outside the city surrounding Hyrule Castle. He met a young boy there, dressed in green with a fairy floating beside his head, and asked if the kid had seen where the princess had gone. The little punk drew his weapon instead, which amused Ganondorf to no end; he decided to merely paralyze the tot with a stun bolt rather than kill him outright like he’d been planning to do.
Still, the encounter left him with no new information and he was in a hurry. He continued the chase, unaware that the princess had left her Ocarina behind for that boy to find.
Eventually he lost track of the Princess and returned to Castletown. To his surprise, he discovered that someone else had already opened the Sacred Realm’s door, inside of the Temple of Time. Ganondorf rushed into the realm, fighting off other would-be treasure hunters, until he finally laid his hands on the Triforce itself.
But such a moment of triumph could not last…
The Triforce read Ganondorf’s heart and found it lacking in the qualities necessary to carry it. A failsafe Ganondorf was unaware of activated itself, and the Triforce split itself into three segments. The segment that the Gerudo king cherished the most, Power, remained in his possession. The other pieces, Wisdom and Courage, fled his presence and bonded themselves to people who were deemed the best representatives of those pieces’ aspects.
Enraged at having come so far only to be blocked at the last second, Ganondorf used the Power segment he carried to create legions of dark creatures under his command. With an unstoppable army of monsters, he quickly overran Hyrule and declared himself its ruler. Those Hylian citizens lucky enough to escape with their lives fled to the remote village of Kakariko in the Death Mountain range; everyone else was slaughtered, and through Ganondorf’s dark magic, became zombie sentries that guarded the former capital of Hyrule Castletown.
Ganondorf spent the next three-quarters of a decade searching frantically for the other two Triforce bearers. Of Courage there was no news at all, but rumor had reached his ears that the Wisdom piece had chosen Princess Zelda as its wielder. However, she was stubbornly difficult to find and time after time she managed to slip out of his grasp.
Then during one fateful week exactly seven years after his takeover, it all came tumbling down. That little kid he’d spared in front of Castletown’s gates years ago wound up being the Courage bearer. His name was Link, and it was by his hands that all of Ganondorf’s plans were undone. The little brat had grown into a frighteningly capable swordsman and destroyed Ganondorf’s dark army with ease, killing Ganondorf’s lieutenants and reawakening the seven Sages who commanded the power of the world’s elements. With their support, Link stormed Ganondorf’s castle and faced the Evil King in single combat at the top of the tallest tower.
Only then did Ganondorf realize his folly. This entire time, he had forgotten about a hidden fifth key to the Sacred Realm described in those ancient texts he’d read so long ago; the Master Sword, a.k.a. the Sword of Evil’s Bane. The legendary blade was wrought of pure light energy and the hardest metals known to mankind, and had been the final seal on the doorway to the Sacred Realm. It had been absent when Ganondorf rushed into the Realm all those years ago…apparently this Link guy had taken it, and was now using it as his weapon of choice.
All of Ganondorf’s dark magics were useless against the might of the Master Sword. He was struck down, and the seven Sages sealed him away in the former Sacred Realm, which had become twisted and evil over the years due to Ganondorf’s influence. As he fell into the void, the Gerudo King vowed to return to Hyrule one day and exact vengeance on Link and Zelda’s descendants.
TWILIGHT PRINCESS
It was a long, long time before Ganondorf managed to bend the seal on the Sacred Realm enough to escape its confines. He emerged in the deserts west of Hyrule, but scarcely had time to take notice of his surroundings before seven white spirits – Sages – captured him and tried to execute him via a sword-stabbing through the chest.
Ganondorf didn't appreciate this too much; the effort it took to escape the Dark Realm had left him severely weakened. He almost died.
Yet with a massive effort and the might of the Triforce piece he carried, he ripped the sword out and killed one of the Sages with it. Frightened, the spirits opened a portal and threw Ganondorf into it, re-sealing the barriers on his body once again.
Ganondorf found himself trapped in the Twilight Realm; a sort of “in-between space” that existed between the Light World and Dark World, a place where a band of power-hungry wizards from the Light World were banished by the Goddesses after seeking to become gods themselves. The wizards’ descendants had grown so accustomed to the realm’s constant dusk that they had difficulty enduring the Light World's brightness; they called themselves the Twili.
Ganondorf arrived in time to witness an uprising of sorts; two court officials, Zant and Midna, had competed for the title of ruler over the Twili. The loser, Zant, fled the Palace of Twilight and collapsed in despair upon its ramparts.
Ganondorf approached the distressed Twili. He offered Zant a deal; in exchange for nigh-unlimited power and legions of dark soldiers under his command, Zant would become the vessel through which Ganondorf would project his will onto the world; a lackey, in layman's terms.
Zant agreed to the deal. When he asked what he needed to do, Ganondorf smiled and described his plans.
First order of business was the takeover of the Twilight Realm. This was easily accomplished after Ganondorf provided means for Zant to turn the Twili into monstrous servants; Zant banished Midna and turned her into an imp for good measure.
The second task at hand was to invade Hyrule; Ganondorf's body had once again been sealed away from Hyrule, but he could still project his spirit beyond the seal's barriers. Unfortunately, much like the Twili, Ganondorf's dark soul could not endure the brightness of the Light World without a body to protect it. Luckily, the Evil King knew there was a way to dim it down to a more tolerable level by shattering the Light Spirits of the realm and spreading the Twilight into Hyrule.
This, too, was quickly accomplished, and Ganondorf's spirit moved from the Twilight Realm into the Gerudo Desert. With immense pressure from both Ganondorf and Zant, the Sages that inhabited the Arbiter's Grounds had no choice but to release their seal on Ganondorf's body.
At last, he walked free in the grassy lands once more.
Unfortunately, Ganondorf knew his time was limited. Already the Light Spirits were being rejuvenated by the new Courage bearer, who bore the same name and appearance as that cursed teenager who had defeated Ganondorf decades prior. The Gerudo king headed for Hyrule Castle, entered it, and erected an unbreachable barrier around it; at least he would be able to confront the Princess Zelda and obtain the Triforce of Wisdom now.
But unfortunately, he was too late; Princess Zelda was comatose and her Triforce piece missing, given to someone else. Ganondorf was aware that the exiled Princess Midna was working together with Link; perhaps she had taken it.
There was no choice now but to grab both Triforce pieces once the Hero and his imp companion confronted him. Ganondorf moved Zelda's body up to the highest room of the castle, and waited.
He did not wait long; a couple days, perhaps. Ganondorf felt as well as saw his barrier around Hyrule Castle collapse; he ordered the bulk of his troops in the castle to evacuate, leaving a bare minimum of guards behind to keep the Hero from getting suspicious.
The Hero arrived with the Master Sword in tow; Midna floated beside him, completely adjusted to the Light Realm's brightness.
An epic battle followed, thereafter described in history books and scrolls with lavish grandeur. Link faced Ganondorf in single combat one again, and with a single stab through the Evil King's chest, smote him to the ground.
SUBSPACE EMISSARY
During the Subspace War, Ganondorf put his tactical mind to use once again as commander of Master Hand’s Subspace Army. He believed himself to be working directly for Master Hand himself, unaware the glove was being puppeted; he saw the war as an opportunity to gain much land and power for himself, things which would be freely given by Master Hand as thanks for his help once the war was over.
Ganondorf’s minions eventually finished the Subspace Gunship, a massive mile-wide attack craft shaped like a giant gun. It could fire beams of dark energy from its barrel that would have the same effect as Subspace Bombs if they hit a target. To draw this ultimate weapon out of Subspace, Ganondorf would need a portal unrivaled in size; he decided that the combined power of all the bombs in the Subspace Bomb Factory would have the desired effect, and he took control of the entire R.O.B. population sans the Ancient Minister to carry out the deed. The resultant explosion consumed the Island of the Ancients, but allowed Ganondorf to move the Gunship out into This World. Unfortunately, the ship was crippled by the legendary Dragoon Air Ride before it could do much damage, and Ganondorf was forced to retreat back into Subspace to think up a new plan.
Soon afterwards, the discovery of Tabuu sent Ganondorf into a rage unrivaled by any other in his lifetime; above all things, he despised being used by another person. Sadly, his efforts to face Tabuu himself ended in failure, forcing the Gerudo King to accept a reluctant truce with his hated adversaries, Link and Zelda, so they could fight the transdimensional being together.
The resultant fight was a sight to see. Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf combined their Triforce powers to create a massive attack against Tabuu that drained the three of them of their energy. While the other fighters continued the battle, the three Triforce holders were forced to rest and watch after that, being too exhausted to continue.
Eventually, it ended; the heroes emerged victorious and Tabuu was banished from Subspace, never to be seen again. Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf all went their separate ways, all three silently agreeing to part without conflict.
What has Ganondorf been up to since then? Biding his time. Though the stunt during the Tabuu fight had drained him, his Triforce piece could recharge itself over time. Soon, he will have enough power to once again call an army of darkness to his side. And then…
Well, he was promised power and glory by Master Hand. One way or the other, he’ll get it.
