Standard Attack: P Harpoon- Taizo performs his trademark move; He shoots his harpoon at an enemy and pumps them full of air. If they don't break free first, they will be continued to be pumped for 4 turns (which by then they will be filled to their limit and have received the maximum damage).
Upward Attack:(R) Long Harpoon- Taizo shoots out a longer form of his harpoon. With it, he can grab onto edges and enemies and then climb back onto the stage or bring them close respectively.
Downward Attack: Block Pop- Taizo's drill produces a block of dirt in front of him. It is used as a shield and breaks after absorbing one enemy attack.
Side Attack: Double Drill- Taizo dives forward and drills into enemies. He can only move horizontally left and right while performing this move.
Final Smash: Classic Mode- The screen is warped into that of the classic Dig Dug arcade game. All the players are turned into tiny sprites of themselves and placed in tunnels, where there they wait for Taizo to come and blow them up. Unlike his standard special attack, once the enemies are swollen to the limit, they are KO'd. When time runs out or all the enemies are KO'd (once) the screen returns to its original appearance.
Weaknesses:
Taizo's greatest weakness is his extremely short temper. Seriously, he needs to calm that down. He's easily offended, stubborn, and is known to jump to conclusions. He can be violent ,too, and this combination of traits can make him scary to others around him. He's also oblivious to the fact that he's getting a bit older now (he's not as enduring as he used to be) and continues to put himself in intense situations and thinks of himself as invincible.
"Dad's getting older now and he still hasn't settled down one bit!"- Susumu
Personality:
Taizo is quick to anger, conclusions, and using violence. He's a very grouchy person. He's independent and strongly believes that he doesn't need any help from anyone. He can be skeptical and unable to trust people right away. He's tough, loud, and gets fussy if in one place or state for a while. He's blunt and boastful, especially about his glory days. He can get apprehensive if he's left out of important missions and is very protective of friends, especially of his boys. He's strict and stern, but only because he cares..!
But putting his snappishness aside, he can be a compassionate person. He enjoys helping others, whether they want him to/need him or not. He has a deep, unconditional love for his two sons, Susumu and Ataru, though his and Ataru's strong personalities butt heads most of the time. He has a passion for his job, drilling, and loves adventure and commotion. He's a determined hard worker; He never slacks off and insists everyone else do the same. He enjoys gardening and eats what he grows, fruits and vegetables (cause he's independent like that). He's prone to, though its a bit rare, being playful and joking also.
Likes: Susumu and Ataru, Kissy, watching TV, eating, women, traveling, his job, digging ("I want to dig" D:), gardening, Dr. Z, Undergrounders, vegetables, fruit, new technology, adventuring, tea, the underground, some friendly competition, animals, robots, gambling/the lottery, lounging, his big chair, giving advice, working on his own, getting some recognition, being admired, lots of attention
Dislikes: Dr. Manhole, Pookas, Fygars, monsters, when people don't know who he is, that his son is more popular than he is, meat, pests, being too busy, getting help from people, Ataru's bad attitude, cicadas (NOISY!), the dark, being bothered when he's working, being called "old", being treated like an old man
Appearances:
History:
Taizo's most glorious moment was the Dig Dug Incident, which he was named the "Hero of the South Island incident" afterward. When Taizo was about 20 years old, had recently moved into his new house which he was able to afford with the money from his snazzy new job as a driller. But had awoken only days after his purchase and found that monsters had been attacking his vegetable garden. Furious, he attacked them with his harpoon and pumped them full of air. This killed them instantly. To his discontent, more arose to the surface from the ground; Kinda like zombies!
His brave actions brought Taizo much fame and admiration, and he was known all over the world as the "Hero of the Dig Dug Incident". This also gained the adoration of spacewoman Toby Masuyo, who had returned from a deadly space exploration
He had returned to a new born son, Ataru, and an unhappy wife; He had missed the birth. Determined to make things work, he accepted the offer of becoming the Chairman of the Driller Council which wouldn't include any work far from home. Though things were working fairly well between the two and they even bore a second son, Susumu, together, Taizo grew miserable of living a peaceful, humdrum life. He insisted that he take back his job as a driller along with the position of chairman. While she strongly disagreed, his wife allowed him to do so. The additional job resulted in Taizo spending more time at work than with his family , the couple's divorce, and Toby's grudge against Taizo for choosing work over her.
Many years later, Susumu had grown into a young man with a love for digging just like his father and, similarly, his passion brought him fame and fortune. Ataru, however, had left home years before his younger brother's success after a dispute with their father and became an unlicensed driller. Although very proud of his younger son, the shift of the spotlight from him to Susumu had left him living a boring life again out in the cold. But opportunity struck when he answered a call intended for Susumu; The caller was in desperate need of an experienced driller to handle a monster problem in their country. The mission rekindled Taizo's career as an adventuring driller and, not to mention, a hero.
Anything else?
His name is a pun on the Japanese phrase "Horitai zo" (掘りたいぞう) or "I want to dig".
"Piece of Cake!!"
