Ivory Evadne Bernegride
Occupation:
**Adelfa's shop has an odd inventory. Tools of alchemy are usually always in stock but he also sometimes has potions, herbs, and odd antiques. And waaay in the back you might find a bottle of poison or two. The items available at his shop are always changing, so it is best to visit him often! And if you're not interested in buying, at Delphy's shop of Deadly Desires, you can also have your fortune told. And if you think you're up for it, Adelfa also occasionally holds spirit channeling sessions through the use of an Ouija board.
Consider yourself lucky if you find the shop open, because although he lives in it, he rarely shows his face around.
Moveset:
Adelfa is absolutely horrible at physical fighting, so it only makes sense that he uses magic and his divine powers to attack his foe. His powers are a bit out of the ordinary, however, as they come from the soul and focus on guiding magical forces with the mind. There are two things necessary for his powers to work, chanting, and emotional calm.
Adelfa also carries within his body a deadly poison. This poison has coursed through his blood since before he was born, and as such it has become a part of his whole being. His body has even started to generate this poison itself. While there really is no way for him to use it to attack foes without getting a little too close, it should be advised that contact with his tears, saliva, blood, and other bodily fluids will probably almost immediately trophyize the victim.
Special Moves: (Mandatory)
All "B" attacks are the "Special Moves" the characters can use. (Example: Bowser's Fire Breath.)
Standard Attack - Divine Exorcism - Adelfa will grab the opponent and give them a jolt with his powers, to release the evil in their souls. The eviler the foe is, the stronger his attack is and vice versa.
Divine Exorcism Chant
I send you away
malicious intents
evil forces
malevolent demons
satanic spirits
Leave the poor creatures of this world alone and return from hence you came, and by the power of the divine redeem this living soul.
Upward Attack - Invocation of History - Adelfa cries out to the spirits of the past to aid him in his battle. He gathers their souls and sends out surging torrents of spiritual energy.
Invocation of History Chant
Spirits of another world, pardon me for disturbing your eternal slumber but it is done in the name of justice. Those of you who were innocent and murdered, those who seek revenge against mankind, come to me and with our powers combined we shall overcome our foes!
Downward Attack - Fortune Telling - (*TO BE USED IN THE BEGINNING OF THE FIGHT ONLY*) using the power of his cards, Adelfa taps into himself, the choices he has made up to this point, and spiritual powers to predict how well the battle will go.
How this attack works - By the roll of a dice, the amount of luck points he will gain for the battle is determined.
Side Attack - Executioner's Sigil of Blinding Infamy -
Adelfa draws a sigil that binds the foe and drains energy out of them.
Sigil looks like this
Final Smash: Sweet Kiss of Death -
Adelfa grabs an opponent and kisses them, sliding sweet cool drops of La Cantarella into their mouth. After contact, the foe is immediately trophyized. Adelfa can kiss as many opponents as he is able to in the course of the three turns of his final smash.
Weaknesses:
Adelfa is very frail, it is easy to break him, crush him, throw him out of the arena, etc. He is also not good at physical combat and is not very speedy because the robes that he wears ties him down. Some of his attacks take him a while to perform, and if one is able to interrupt him during a chant he will probably have to start all over again.
In addition, Adelfa is very weak in the mind. He can often be thrown off and become emotionally unstable, given the current predicament he is in (the fact that he is a living murder weapon) and his past. This can be used to the foe's advantage because almost all of Adelfa's attacks require emotional calm in order for them to be able to work.
Personality:
Adelfa is very soft-spokeen and has a mysterious aura about him as if there is more to him than the eye can see, or as if he were hiding something. He does not enjoy talking and only says what needs to be said, trying to avoid being circuitous unless the circumstances call for it. Sometimes he is good at feigning indifference, but he really has a kind heart despite the fact that his trade does not make it easily shown.
Adelfa is a very lonely person. He wishes to have some sort of companion but has already given up hope. He is afraid of himself and what he might do to anyone that came to close to him, so he tends to keep his heart closed and push others away from him. And if he fears that he is getting too attached to someone...he kills them before he gets too emotionally involved.
Likes:
Ivor Evadne, alchemy, research, spirits, church, quiet, the sweet taste that is always in his mouth (from the poison), the supernatural, the sound of footsteps in the corridor, praying, graveyards (especially during the night), fortune telling, the smell outside after it had just been pouring rain
Dislikes:
Poison (especially La Cantarella), his father, being alone, noise, the fact that no matter how hard he researches he never gets anywhere,
Appearance:
History:
Back in the kingdom and time Adelfa was born, the church was powerful and corrupt. His own father was at the head of the church, but even with his status, was hungry for more. He wanted to have ALL the power over the country, so he sought of a plan. That was when he heard it, the legend of La Cantarella. Supposedly if you gave a child minuscule amounts of the poison everyday, by the time they became an adult he would be able to kill someone with just one kiss.
At that time, his concubine was with child, it was the perfect opportunity. Starting from then, Adelfa's father fed her a bit of this poison everyday despite her protests. She was afraid that he would kill the baby within her womb. But thankfully it did not. And everyday Adelfa grew bigger as his mother grew weaker from the poison until he was finally born. By then, he already was accustomed to the sweet taste of the poison and yearned for the time he was fed, to taste it again.
It was considered unholy and scandalous for one at the head of the church to have a child, let alone a woman in their life, so Adelfa's father kept him and his mother locked in a room all the time and prevented them from coming out. Despite this, Adelfa was happy. He had a strong bond with his mother and the two made the best of their time with each other.
However, his mother had fallen very ill, still suffering from the affects of the La Cantarella she had took in during her pregnancy. Adelfa could only watch as his mother clung onto her life. He recalled her encouraging words to him every time she was preparing his meal and putting a spoon of the sugary mysterious liquid into his food. 'You know, some day with this, you will be able to do many great special things with only a kiss.' Naturally, being the child he was, he immediately sought to try anything to save his mother and decided to give her a kiss to see if anything special really would happen. Maybe he would be able to save her!
The naive child hastily planted his lips on his mother's while she rested. And that was the first time he would give the gift of death to anyone. She seemed a lot calmer after the kiss was over, and Adelfa hoped that it had worked. But nothing happened except for the fact that his mother was now cold and stiff, and her breath and pulse had left her. At the time, Adelfa did not understand the concept of death, but he definitely knew that something was wrong.
But as Adelfa told his father what had happened, an evil smile spread across the old man's face. He decided that it was time to publicize his son, and presented him as an adopted son and acolyte. As his father had high influence, Adelfa met with the princess of the kingdom often. There always seemed to be a hunger in the little girl's eyes and she always asked the same question, 'Hey, won't you give me a kiss?' He found it quite odd and always answered her question with silence.
The princess was the only living Royalty at the time and once she was married, she would rule the country. Adelfa did not know this but his father had managed to arrange a marriage between him and the little girl knowing that once they were wed she would be killed and from then his son can rule the country. And around the same time he planned to give Adelfa his status in the church, and their family would have ultimate control. However, there would still be people in his way. So his father decided to rid of these people, using Adelfa.
And thus a saying sprung about and around the kingdom. People would say 'You always hear "I'm going to dine with the Delphiums tonight" but never "I've dined with the Delphiums last night"' Night after night, Adelfa would plant his kiss of death upon the visitors and he learned the reason for his existence...and resented it.
He did not want to be a part in any of his father's plans! So he packed his bags and traveled to an entire different world with the aid of his spiritual powers that he had inherited from his father. He entered the world of Smash and set up shop there, on the outskirts of Smash City. It was there that he started his research, in which finding a nullifyer or an antidote to his poison was top priority.
Adelfa was able to live peacefully for years afterwards considering that no one but him knew his secret. Until one day a demon visited him in his shop as he slept. The demon told him that it knew about everything he has done and that he cannot hide. It also mentioned that there was someone on the way to his shop that knew this information as well but to not fret, for if he helps this person they would reciprocate. With that the demon vanished.
Sure enough, the next day a little girl appeared in his shop. He had never seen her before yet there was something familiar about her. Maybe it was the way that she looked at him with hunger in her eyes... He had learned that the girl's name was Ivory Evadne Benegride and what she sought was knowledge that only he would know about, legends, divine powers, and the like. In return she offered to teach him alchemy and the dark arts.
Soon, they became a team and he relaxed in and even enjoyed her company. However, this turned out to be a bad thing as he became careless around her and one day left his cup lying around. The young girl had taken the same cup when he was not looking and sucked on the edge, where his lips had been, wishing to know the sweetness of his poison. When he found her she was laying on the floor, barely alive, and his cup shattered on the floor next to her.
Adelfa shook her and demanded, 'Why did you do something so stupid?!'
'I wanted...I wanted to taste La Cantarella...Just once' She replied, her voice faint and quivering. Adelfa refused to believe that she was going to die and hastily gathered materials needed to create the Philosopher's Stone and for the first time out of many attempts he made, he was able to create it and use it to make an elixir of life.
He forced the liquid down her throat and was going to force her into drinking every last drop of it but soon she closed her mouth and sat up, the color returning to her body. She leaned up and kissed him, forcing the last bit of the elixir into his mouth. 'I...I don't want to live forever if you won't be at my side!' Tears slid down her cheeks. 'To think that La Cantarella is so sweet, beautiful, and kind...it was totally uncalled for!
'Are you in the right mind? How can a poison be beautiful and kind?'
'Fool, I'm not talking about the poison...' She looked away, blushing.
Since then, together they continued to live in the shop, still looking for the cure to the poison that haunts Adelfa's soul. But with a new sense of closeness and hope, expecting to share an eternity with each other...
