Age:
Unknown, presumed to have stopped ageing some time ago.
Species:
Human, though infused with Star Power due to a lifetime eating Star Bits.
Gender:
Female
Alignment:
Good
Type:
Heavy Class - though not exactly hefty, Rosalina is unusually tall and proportionally larger than average, having entered the Mario Kart tournament as a heavyweight in the past.
Character Stats:
Heavyweight: 112 HP; 6 PP; 7 LP
Residence:
Comet Observatory
Personal Relationships:
The Lumas
One of Rosalina's most notable relationships is with the Lumas. Rosalina has cared for the Lumas since she was a little girl, when she found one looking for its mother. The two quickly bonded and they searched the galaxies together in search of their missing mothers. The Luma comforted her when she cried about her mother and the two soon found more Lumas. Rosalina then decided to build a home for the Lumas and care for them for eternities to come. When Rosalina once again mourned for her mother, all of the Lumas embraced her and together, they baked a cake topped with Star Bits. Rosalina also reads them bedtime stories every night in the Library to help them sleep.
Polari
Polari is an elderly dark brown Luma who serves as Rosalina's most trusted adviser. Said to be one of the oldest, wisest Lumas in existence, he has extensive knowledge of the Comet Observatory. Polari is highly protective of Rosalina, acting like a father to her. If the two are together, Polari always stands by Rosalina's side unless his duties require him to be elsewhere.
Mario
Mario befriended Rosalina during the events of Super Mario Galaxy. When Rosalina was in need of help to recover her lost Grand Stars that power the Comet Observatory, Mario came to her aid. With his help, Rosalina was able to power the Comet Observatory and continue her orbit around the universe. In return for Mario's help, Rosalina helped Mario in his adventure to rescue Princess Peach, by using the Comet Observatory to destroy a fleet of Bowser's airships and transport him to where Peach was being held captive by Bowser. At the end of the adventure, Rosalina appeared one more time in front of Mario, and granted him knowledge about the stars. After that, she bade him goodbye.
Luigi
When the Comet Observatory somehow ventured into an alternative universe, Rosalina also befriended Luigi who followed the same quest as Mario's, although it is uncertain whether or not the Luigi of This World will have any memory of that adventure.
Occupation:
Adopted Mother and Lumas, Astrologist of the Comet Observatory, Explorer of the Cosmos
Moveset:
Standard Attack - Warp Field (R)
(Starts at 00:07)
Rosalina surrounds herself protectively within a blue energy bubble. If timed correctly, this shield repels attackers backwards with as much force as they inflict upon it, including projectiles. If combined with a Pull Star, Rosalina is moved through the air within the Warp Field in a trail of rainbow light, dealing damage to whoever she collides with in the process.
Upward Attack - Pull Star (R)
Rosalina creates a shimmering blue Pull Star in mid-air which latches onto the nearest person (depending on where she's aimed it) with a straight, blue line of gravitational force, temporarily immobilising them within a blue stasis field and pulling them gradually towards it for a short while. This can prevent a target from moving in a fixed direction for a short while, or pull them upwards if they are falling in mid-air.
Downward Attack - Luma Spin (R)
(As demonstrated by Mario)
A melee technique learned from the Lumas themselves, Rosalina twirls herself around in a quick twisting spin, showering stardust in every direction. This attack can stun nearby enemies, shatter objects or give Rosalina an extra jump boost in mid-air when needed.
Side Attack - Star Cluster
With a wave of her wand, Rosalina launches a white, comet-like projectile in an aimed direction which deals moderate damage if it hits an enemy. Where it hits, the Cluster bursts into multi-coloured Star Bits inflicting minor multi-hit damage on those hit by the shower of lesser projectiles.
Final Smash:
Rosalina calls down many multi-coloured Lumas from the sky to aid her, transforming them into comets which assault the enemy from above, crashing down into the surrounding area and bursting into star dust wherever they hit. This turns them back into Lumas, where they perform quick spin attacks to hop up and boost themselves away. Those left undamaged by the shooting stars are stunned by the explosions of stardust in all directions. Star Bits are also left scattered across the ground surrounding the points where the Lumas struck. This gives Rosalina the option of either eating the Star Bits to regain some HP or attack those stunned to finish them off. This is sort of a blend of Lucas/Ness's PK Starstorm followed by Peach's Peach Blossom.
(A) Standard Attack - Wand flick and swish
(A) Upward Attack - Upward wand sweep
(A) Downward Attack - Crouched foot tap
(A) Side Attack - Backhand slap
Upward Smash - Upward burst of stardust
Downward Smash - Floats upside down and spins
Side Smash - Wand twirl shooting out three star bits
Grab 1 - Sweeps enemy up in her butterfly net, spins and tosses them
Grab 2 - Magically surrounds enemy in Sling Star and launches them
Weaknesses:
Having spent so long out in space eating Star Bits and conversing with Lumas, Rosalina is a little out of touch with humanity and is unaccustomed to walking around on the planet's face as a human as she used to. Though she is caring and instinctively maternal by nature, it comes across in a distant, unattached sort of way as Rosalina finds it difficult to empathise with human emotions, having spent so long on a higher path guiding the energies and movements of the Cosmos. The sorrow of having lost her mother as a child is one of the few human emotions she still remembers from her childhood spent on Mushroom World.
Personality:
Rosalina is generally wise, kind, thoughtful and motherly. She has an intimate knowledge of the universe and cares deeply for the Lumas. Her outward strength and inner sorrow comes from a sense of loss, as Rosalina's deep sense of loneliness could only increase for as long as she has been traversing the Cosmos. Even when excited, Rosalina's voice is rather monotoned as she finds it difficult to gain a real sense of her emotions anymore. Instead, she prefers to assume a humble, regal role as a sort of maternal sovereign of the Lumas.
Likes:
Star-gazing, rabbits, apricot tea, butterfly-catching, the Lumas, baking star bit cakes, racing her bike Twinkle Star.
Dislikes:
Galactic tyrants, bullies, space pirates, those who mistreat children, people making fun of her size.

History:
Rosalina's story begins when she was a young girl living on Mushroom World (possibly in the Mushroom Kingdom). One day, Rosalina discovered a rusty spaceship (resembling the Starshroom) with a Luma inside. The Luma introduced itself, revealing that it was waiting for its "Mama". Rosalina bonded with the Luma, and promised that she would wait with it. Armed with her father's telescope, Rosalina stargazed for years, searching for the comet that carried the Luma's mother. Fearing it was taking too long, Rosalina and Luma fixed the spaceship then set off into space.
Traversing through asteroids, Rosalina grew very hungry. She had brought essentials for the trip: the telescope, food, her stuffed bunny (resembling a Star Bunny) and tea, but forgot water. At the sight of a pouting Rosalina, the Luma then told her that Star Bits would be all she needed, and began to share them with her. Leaning out the spaceship the two collected Star Bits to eat.
One night a shimmering comet made of ice flew past the ship. Hoping Luma's mama would be there, the two set foot onto it. Mama was nowhere to be found, but discovered Star Bits clustered to the south.
One night in a dream, Rosalina remembered her mother. Rosalina's mother greatly resembled how she herself would come to look. In the dream Rosalina's mother was going away. She told her not to worry, because she would always be watching her. Clinging to her mother, Rosalina cried. Upon waking up, Luma noticed tears coming from Rosalina's eyes (and mistook them for Star Bits). However, Rosalina explained what they actually were. She was crying because she would never see her mother again. At this, they both broke down into tears over their lost mothers.
Continuing the search, Rosalina comforted the Luma, and told the little star she would take care of it, and with that a spark in her heart went off. She became determined to mother the Luma and then started to make the home out of the comet. With tools found inside the comet, Rosalina built what would become Domes that would link to various galaxies. For now, however, it was a shelter for Lumas. Once completed it seemed very large for her and just one Luma.
One day another comet flew close to Rosalina's new home, and from the comet another Luma appeared. The Luma affectionately called out and said Rosalina was it's "Mama." Soon the other Luma joined in: "My Mama, My Mama!" Rosalina found this so touching she couldn't help but laugh. Out of the comet many more Lumas came, and all of them called her Mama. She took them all under her wing, named them, and moved them all into her newly built house on the comet.
One night Rosalina remembered her home planet of Mushroom World, and wondered if everything was all right there. She looked through her telescope until she could make out the planet's surface. She found her favorite spot for stargazing, on top of a hill with a lone tree, and it reminded her of her family. She wanted to go home, but she knew she'd never see her mother again. At this time it was revealed her mother had died, and was buried under the tree in view. Rosalina had been aware of this all along, but was unwilling to truly believe it.
The Lumas comforted the crying Rosalina, assuring her that she shouldn't be sad. They told Rosalina that her mother is a part of her and will always be close by. It was at this time the Lumas she met inside the ship had an idea. The Lumas transformed the comet into the Comet Observatory to help in finding all their Mamas. The Lumas explained that when they grow up, they transform into various things, including stars, comets, and planets. Rosalina was so overcome with emotion due to this selfless act she thanked all the Lumas that had huddled around to hug her. From that day on Rosalina never cried again.
The observatory grew and grew into a better home, and Rosalina and the Luma were proud to call it their own. At a welcoming party for a new Luma, Rosalina and the others baked a cake topped off with Star Bits. Coming together in such a way made her realize the Lumas were her new family, and she was determined to raise them and help them all fulfill their destinies. It was at this time she began to call herself the mother of the Lumas.
Rosalina was reminded yet again of her home one night. Even though she had a new goal in her life, she thought it'd be nice to visit her favorite spot from her past. So every one hundred years the Comet Observatory passes over the Mushroom Kingdom so that she can re-visit her homeworld.
Crossing over from world to world, universe to universe, was something Rosalina was already well-accustomed to. It hadn't been that long ago that the galaxies had remade themselves following the events of the hero/plumber Mario's quest to save his princess. The tyrant Bowser's attempt to rule the galaxy with an artificially created sun failed in the process, creating a supermassive black hole which forced Rosalina to command every Luma to throw themselves into in an attempt to stop it, sacrificing themselves in the process. As nearby galaxies were consumed, they collapsed into a spacetime singularity before exploding into a supernova which consumed everything in a final white light.
As the universe remade itself, scattered stardust beginning to reform back into stars, Mario was returned to his homeworld to explore how the new galaxy may have changed its properties. With a wistful sigh, Rosalina returned to her great work nurturing the newborn stars aboard the Comet Observatory so that new galaxies would be created once more.
As time passed, some Lumas grew big enough to depart from the Observatory and transorm into galaxies populating the universe. To Rosalina's concern, however, she began to sense her connection to these galaxies suddenly disappear with no signs of Lumas returning to her to continue their life cycle afterwards. While concentrating on making an attempt to locate these lost galaxies using both magic and the Observatory's Domes, something else was detected as heading straight for the Observatory. It was the Subspace Army: an unusual force headed by a Space Pirate named Ridley along with a fleet of Primid ships.
Using powerful magic to defend her family, Rosalina was able to repel the attackers but was left severely weakened, and the Observatory was badly damaged losing entire Star Power resources from its central beacon, except for a small portion placed in reserve for a distress signal. Trapped upon their immobile, lightless home, the Lumas huddled together within their mother's bright aura of light and she read them bedtime stories while they waited to be rescued. While they slept, Rosalina gazed out amongst the stars using her father's telescope and searched the heavens for a solution to their dilemma. With a sigh, she made up her mind to resort to her emergency stash of Star Power, which was located within her home planet: Mushroom World. Somehow, she would have to return home and locate this Star Power in order to power her starship with it. She hoped that the galaxy had not changed so much that her Power Star reserves were no longer where she had left them.
It would seem that fortune smiled upon the stargazer and her Luma children at that time, as a passing gunship picked up her distress signal and responded in kind. As chance would have it, it was heading on a direct course for This World. Little did Rosalina know that the ship was piloted by none other than one of the galaxy's fiercest bounty hunters: Samus Aran.
