Name of Location:
Bowser's Castle
Neighboring Locations:
Mushroomy Kingdom
Bestiary:
Thwomps, Podobos, Bowser, and Toad, all of which have the classic Super Mario Bros. spriteage, just like the stage itself.
Appearence:
*insert pic of castle in Super Mario Bros. where you face a Bowser*
History:
This iconic location is the residence of the great King Koopa, and has always been the location of the great climatic battles between Mario and Bowser. Thinking of this, Master Hand created this stage as an homage to the Castle itself, placing in all sorts of pitfalls and perils Bowser himself would be proud of. Since however, this was designed as purely a battle arena, the halls are ghostly quiet with the lack of life in them, beyond the occassional Thwomp and Podobo.
Events:
A whole ton, since a Bowser stage is not one to just simply have one easily avoided event. The stage begins in a hallway, and slowly scrolls forward (new things coming from the right), similar to Mushroomy Kingdom. Along the blocky hallway, players have to dodge the Thwomps that fall from above when a character goes underneath, or else they'll get squished and recieve massive damage. Fortunately Thwomps don't fall immediately. They have to jump over the pitfalls and pits of lava that hold the randomly jumping Podobos. The Podobos deal minor fire damage to characters. And of course, they have to move around those accursed fire sticks, lest they want to get burned. In the hallway, the only way to get KOed is horizontally and to fall into a pit that is not filled with lava. Above and below is blocked by solid pixelly blocks (well, aside from the pits anyway).
Once the hallway ends, the screen stops moving and stops on the classic platform from where you face Bowser. And indeed he is there, shooting the occasional fireball from the right side of the screen. The platfrom here is thin, so you can fall through it... and into the lava, which still has the threat of the Podobos. The roof has caved in here, so there are bits and bobs of rubble to jump on and hide behind, but truely this a stage where no place is safe for long, due to Podobos from below, and the fireballs from the side. Touching Bowser also inflicts damage. The ways to get KOed here are from the left side of the field, and from above, since the ceiling has caved in.
And, after a select amount of time has passed, a toad will appear in the middle of the playing field, and text will roll across the top of the screen, reading "I'm sorry Mario, but the Princess is in another castle.". Bowser himself will grab the fabled axe and cut the platform the characters are on, causing them to fall into the now harmless lava.... and back into the hallway, where the loop begins anew.
Music: The classic theme you hear upon entering the castle, as well as the Super Mario Bros. 3 Boss Battle remix heard in Brawl.
Anything Else:
If you look closely, the players on this stage are 2D!
... I am still highly annoyed by the lack of a Bowser Castle stage in all the Smash Bros. games thus far. <<
