Occupation:
The De Jure Prince of Nimbus Land
Moveset:
Physical abilities:
-Mallow is very light and airy due to being a Nimbus person; rather than jumping he floats.
- He can control the weather.
- He is a powerful spell caster; all of this spells are weather related.
Specials:
1 neutral: Snowy: Mallow rolls his arm to gather momentum and hurls a snowball at his opponent. The longer this attack is charged the larger and more powerful the snowball will be. This attack fully charged takes a little while to execute but it’s worth the wait. When this attack is fully charged a snowy aura will appear around Mallows hand to indicate that he can use it. The snowball will roll in a straight trajectory and is about the size of a party ball but the longer it rolls the larger it can become; the maximum size is about the diameter of Bowser. It causes heavy damage and forces opponents caught in its path to roll along with it; this causes even greater damage. The snowball will burst if it falls from a higher platform or if it’s struck by a powerful attack. When this attack isn’t at full power the snowballs are much smaller and only cause minimal damage.
1 up: Gale (R): Mallow holds his breath while he does a small hop and releases it downward creating a strong wind that propels him upward a great distance. The wind doesn’t cause much damage but if a foe with a high damage percentage is hit by it he or she may be temporarily frozen.
1 down: Cleansing Rain: Mallow holds his hands over his head as a gray cloud appears a small distance above him. Raindrops begin showering him and recover a small amount of HP, about 5%. This ability may fail if used too much and Mallow is also vulnerable while doing this.
1 side: Shocker: Mallow holds his tiny hands upward as his top half floats above his pants. He then points forward as a black cloud appears a short distance above him and a bolt of lightning blast downward. This move is similar to Pickachu’s Thunderbolt except the cloud is closer to the ground and the lightning actually moves forward. While it has less power than Pickachu’s signature attack it takes less time to execute and travels 4 character lengths before dissipating. This attack has good knockback and causes considerable damage.
Standard Attacks:
2 neutral: Mallow hits the opponent with two punches. If this action is repeated he will kick forward.
2 side: Mallow shoves the enemy forward with both arms. This attack doesn’t cause much damage but has good knockback.
2 up: Mallow does a slight hop and pushes upward with both hands.
2 down: Mallow crouches and attacks his opponent’s legs with a punch.
Running attack: Mallow charges the enemy and hits them with a flying tackle. This attack causes moderate damage and has good knockback.
Smash attacks:
2 side: Sonic Cymbals: Mallow holds his symbols in front of him and smashes them together with such force they create a small shockwave. Opponents in proximity to the cymbals suffer considerable damage (Opponents that are farther away from Mallow receive minimal damage from the shockwave). This attack has good knockback and the shockwave can occasionally break enemy shields.
2 up: Nimbus Spin: Mallow puts his hands together above his head and spins so rapidly he looks like a small tornado. This attack has great knockback and can repel items thrown by opponents. If this attack is fully charged he will spin up to 6 times rapidly.
2 down: Angry Cloud: Mallow bends slightly as he stands screen forward and puts his arms in front of him. His puff white body will turn dark gray as lightning bolts burst around. This attack lacks the range of Shocker but it’s more powerful and has great knockback.
Throws:
Up throw: Mallow grabs the opponent and launches them upward as he becomes a small tornado. This attack is similar to his upward smash but isn’t as powerful.
Forward throw: Mallow grabs the opponent and punches them forward a short distance.
Back throw: Mallow hurls the opponent backwards and hurls a bolt of lightning at them.
Down throw: Mallow knocks the opponent over; does a small jump; and cannonballs into them.
Grab: He steps on the opponent’s foot. This is one of the few instances he uses his legs.
Aerials:
1 neutral: He spins once with his tiny arms outstretched.
1 up: He smashed his hands together creating a small shockwave. This attack has good knockback.
1 forward: He punches forward with both fists.
1 backward: He does a half-spin kick backwards.
1 down: He extends his arms downward as they blast with a cold burst that sends three stalactites downward. They have good knockback and can temporarily freeze a foe if they have accumulated enough damage.
Taunts:
A neutral: He does a slight hop and waves frantically while facing the camera.
A side: He begins crying but immediately wipes his face and does a fighting stance.
A down: He puffs himself as big as he can and then giggles as he shrinks.
Final Smash: Sparking Chute:
When Mallow breaks the smash ball he performs his most powerful technique, Sparkling Chute. Mallow holds his hands to the heavens as his puffy white body floats over his pants. Suddenly a massive, glittering star with two cute eyes smashes down on the stage. It causes heavy damage and will bounce three times after the initial drop: first where it landed, then to the right, and finally to the left. This attack has high K.O Potential but keep in mind Mallow is immobile while performing this technique so watch out on scrolling stages.
Weaknesses:
Mallow isn’t very strong and is incredibly lightweight, to the point that he can be sent flying off the stage with little damage. Mallow falls very slowly, which does allow him to utilize his aerial attacks but also leaves him vulnerable. Mallow can be a bit of a crybaby and gets scared easily. He isn’t that confident and wishes he was more like the tadpoles that he was raised with. He tends to be naïve which can lead him into precarious situations.
Personality:
Before joining Mario, Mallow suffered from low self-esteem and was a bit of a crybaby at times, however as they journeyed together, he built up his courage and proved himself to be a levelheaded member of the party on numerous occasions (such as when he held Mario back from unwisely attacking Bowyer). Mallow becomes very emotional multiple times in the game: namely, when he fails to apprehend Croco and return Frogfucius' coin, when he finds out he is not a Tadpole and Frogfucius is not his real grandfather, when he finds out that he’s really from Nimbus Land, and when he finally meets his parents. Mallow looks up to Mario as a role-model and admires his jumping skills, much like the other tadpoles do, which was how Mallow was raised. Even Mallow's own father, King Nimbus, enjoys the sight of Mario's jumping abilities.
Likes:
Mario’s jumping prowess, Frogfucius, engaging in Tadpole activities, Nimbus Land, and spending time with his friends.
Dislikes:
Croco, Valentina, not being like the other tadpoles he grew up with, not being able to jump high, bickering, and being called a crybaby.
Appearance:
History:
Mallow was born to the royal family in Nimbus Land, King and Queen Nimbus. However, while still an infant, Mallow was lost. He was eventually discovered near Tadpole Pond, by the sage Frogfucius. Frogfucius removed the basket from the waters, discovering a little ball of puff inside. On the cloud child's belt, the name "Mallow" was inscribed. Frogfucius rightly deduced that this was the young cloud person's name, and he decided to raise Mallow as his grandson. The old frog raised him as one of his own, and as such Mallow grew up believing he was a tadpole, despite his unusual appearance in relation to the tadpoles he grew up with. However, throughout his childhood, Mallow never felt like a normal tadpole - he didn't have a tail, he was a bad jumper and a terrible swimmer; additionally, he was also much larger than all the other tadpoles. One day, Mallow visited the Mushroom Kingdom to buy a Cricket Pie for Frogfucius. However, the Frog Coin he was given to buy it was stolen by Croco, a reptilian thief. Mallow attempted to chase him, but Croco was too fast. Mallow gave up and began to cry. A rainstorm started, revealing Mallow's unusual control over the weather.
Mario witnessed this and assisted Mallow. The two of them traveled to Bandit's Way to catch Croco. After chasing him, the two caught Croco and regained Mallow's coin after a battle.
Mallow thanked Mario and they returned to the Mushroom Kingdom. The two of them rescued the Mushroom Kingdom from the monsters it had been overrun with: Shysters and Mack, one of the members of the Smithy Gang, recovering a Star Piece in the process.
The Chancellor thanked Mario and Mallow, but revealed that he was worried about Smithy and his weapons. Mallow suggested that he and Mario go to Tadpole Pond to visit his grandfather, Frogfucius, who might know what to do.
When they arrived, Frogfucius told the two that they need to collect seven Star Pieces. Additionally, he revealed a secret he had been hiding: Mallow is not really a tadpole. Mallow was shocked by the news, but Frogfucius told him that his real parents were out there, somewhere, and that he would be joining Mario to help him and to find his real family. Mallow, who had been expecting to stay at Tadpole Pond, nevertheless agreed, and he accompanied Mario on his adventure.
After traveling with Mario for a while, the team went to Nimbus Land, a city on a cloud inhabited by people who looked remarkably like Mallow. When they arrived, they noticed a commotion at the castle. Valentina was telling a group of citizens that she had found "Prince Mallow" after all the time he had been missing. She brought out Dodo, a large bird. Everyone believed that Dodo was indeed their missing prince. Mallow himself mentioned that it was interesting that there was a prince with the same name as him, not suspecting anything. He also suggested to Mario to pass by the area, citing that it was unimportant to the star search.
While in Nimbus Land, they visited Garro, a sculptor. There was a golden sculpture at the side of his room. Mallow noticed it and remarked that it looked identical to him. Garro said that it was the king of Nimbus Land when he was very young; then he turned around. He realized that Mallow was indeed the missing prince and that Dodo was an impostor, and sent them to the castle to stop Valentina. Mallow then found out that he was one of the Nimbus People and indeed their prince; he also finally managed to meet his true parents, King Nimbus and Queen Nimbus. Despite his opportunity to return to the throne and take care of princely matters, Mallow decided to continue traveling with Mario until their quest was over.
Mallow was last seen in the first of the many cut scenes generated by the Star Pieces spangling the Star Road during the game's ending sequence. He was here shown presenting himself to his people; the facts that he was dressed in a crown and cape indicate that he had by then taken up the role of prince once and for all. Like several characters introduced in the game, Mallow has not appeared again.
