Midair Stadium: A New Year, A New Adventure...

It was floating high in the sky, looking every bit like a majestic spaceship. Its many stadium lights sparkled brightly as the sun set behind the mountains, bringing on the coolness of a summer night. Inside, the noise of a million voices cheered as though they were calling up to heaven itself.

This was the Midair Stadium, and this was the opening night of another Super Smash Bros. season.

As the deafening noice continued to echo throughout the metal dome, countless speakers began blasting the voice of an announcer.

"ARE YOU READY TO BRAWL!?"

The crowd cheered even louder in responce. This was the moment they were waiting for.

"Yes! It is finally time!" the booming voice continued, "It has been a year since our epic competitions were... Interupted... But it is of no matter! Tonight, we return to the fights we so dearly love! Now, for this historic opening, we have a one-on-one fight that you've all been waiting for! Let's bring out our combatants!"

Suddenly, the spotlights aimed down on the arena in the center of the stadium, where a huge, green pipe suddenly rose out of the ground.

"Player One is someone who certainly needs no introduction... The man, the myth, the legend..."



"MARIO!"

As the announcer said this, the famous red-capped plumber leaped out of the pipe, smile beaming to the audience as he touched solid ground.

Looking at the massive crowd, Mario honestly couldn't believe it. Had it really been an entire year since Tabuu threatened to destroy This World? And yet, despite the sacrifices and losses, everything had been rebuilt to its former glory... Save for the Ancient Island.

Where did R.O.B. go, anyway? He seemed to simply fade away after those horrific events...

Mario's thought process was quickly interupted as the crowd screamed even louder. This was no time to linger in the past. Smiling again, the plumber-turned-hero took his cap off and waved to his fans.

At long last, it was time to Brawl again.

"And now for Player 2, a being who may as well be the wind himself..."

Speaking of wind, Mario may as well feel a breeze that seemed to surround the field.

"...the ultimate speedster himself, the fastest thing alive...

The wind grew stronger, forming into blue blurs.

"SONIC THE HEDGEHOG!!!"


The wind stopped far before Mario, blowing the dust in blast. The smoke cleared, and there stood like he was the coolest thing on earth, the blue spiked creature on red gold-buckled sneakers. With his arms crossed, and his back facing Mario, Sonic looked over his shoulder with that devilish smirk.

"Heh! Sup there, Jumpman!" snapping around, Sonic coolly held up an index finger in a fashionable way, which the crowd roared at it. "Ready for an old-fashioned hedgehog-whooping?"

Mario let out a frustrated sigh. He figured Sonic would be his opponent. It was just... fitting. That wasn't what bothered Mario, however. It was Sonic's attitude... He was so arrogant and overconfident all the time.

Still, he had to hand it to the hedgehog... If it wasn't for Sonic, Tabuu would have most likely won, and neither of them would be here right now. Putting his hat back on his head, Mario glared at his opponent. His personal opinion of the hedgehog made little difference right now... It was game time.

"Heh... I'd-a like to see you try, hedgehog," Mario replied, trying his hardest to sound tough (it was admittedly pretty hard for him, though), "Let's-a see if your confidence carries over into the playing field."

"Are the fighters ready!?" the announcer boomed. Mario waved in response.

"Yep! Let's-a go!"

The hedgehog just smirked at Mario's remark. "Dude, it'll carry your butt over the cosmos!"

He had to admit, Mario can put up a fight, and even though he's not as fast as yours truly, he can somehow keep up in a fight. Too bad the man was always stiff; which was why Sonic liked to egg him on. He needed to loosen up.

Still, they did work well fighting off that weird butterfly man when Sonic stumbled upon a portal to This World, fighting along side many heroes. How furious he was when he found out that he missed all the action. Man! He wondered how long that portal was left open in Green Hill; if only he found it sooner. But he was busy fighting Eggman and running from Amy.

...gee...he sure hoped they didn't follow him here. Oh well. He may as well keep on hanging around here. He heard that ol plumber boy is a magnet for trouble. That's what he thought a year ago. But...

"Are the fighters ready!?" the announcer boomed. Sonic posed a fighting stance, arm and leg held forward like he was prepared for karate.

"Bring it on!"



Way up on the stadium where the audience lies eager for the match, two unique looking characters (followed by three strange creatures) were found as well.

One was a young pre-teen girl sitting on the shoulders of a tall but powerful bird-like creature. The girl's face easily read excitement on her, as her fists was flowing with it too.

"Well here we go!! I heard that these two duking it out was the match everyone was waiting for!"

"Blaz, Blaz." her tall Pokémon replied in agreement. It held up a pumped fist, fueled with excitement, but much calmer than her trainer.

[Mage]

The other interesting figure was also a girl, but unlike the other she was a fox woman; a beautiful one too. She had her staff resting lightly on her shoulder while she looked at the match. "Two legends battling each other, it seems Fox was right about this brawl indeed." Krystal was learning how to fight to fight along side Fox, her soul mate. But her boyfriend suggested that, she could learn by watching professionals and studying there moves. Krystal was more then eager to do so, but its a little hard when the tomboyish girl next to her was shouting and cheering like a war had ended. She looked at May and silently said to herself. "...My she certainly is full of energy..."

"Well then," the announcer shouted, "if the compatants are ready, let us begin the battle!



Mario quickly got into a fighting stance. This was just like old times...

"3... 2... 1... FIGHT!"

As soon as the countdown ended, Mario ran foward towards Sonic, amist the sudden erruption of cheers from the crowd. The year's wait had ended: the Brawl had begun.

If there was one thing Mario knew about the hedgehog, it was that he was fast. The last thing he wanted to do was be at the immediate disadvantage of letting the Blue Blur get away. As he was about to reach Sonic, the plumber suddenly dropped down and slid at his shins, feet first. What better way to stop Sonic than by going for the legs?

Yeah, Sonic was on his guard...okay, he was just standing there like a day in the park, waiting for the plumber to throw a punch or something, so he can run circles around him. But he was caught by surprised when Mario seemed to vanish.

Sonic only found him sliding at the last minute, so he barely leaped out of the way. Though Mario's leg managed to slide through his foot, nearly making him topple. But Sonic quickly caught himself with his hand and sprung away, on his feet.

"Heh, okay, I'll give ya that. Now it's really time for me to blast off..." he vanished in a blur before his voiced echoed, "WITH SONIC SPEED!!!"



"WHOA!!!!" she couldn't believe her eyes. Neither did any of her Pok?mon. That Sonic guy might be as fast as a Pidgeot.



Sonic zipped in every corner in a blink of an eye, almost as if there were so many of him surrounding Mario. But hopefully that'll distract Mario while Sonic take him down from behind...

...with a Sonic Spin Attack.

Mario muttered something in Italian as Sonic sped off. He wasn't that easily fooled by the hedgehog's trickery, though. Keeping his eyes firmly on the real deal, Mario watched as he ran all over the arena, until he suddenly realized that he was comming in from behind. Mario jumped into the air to avoid the oncomming bullet and succeded... Mostly. The resulting blast of wind that followed Sonic forced Mario to make a less than graceful landing on his butt.

"Grr... Stupid hedgehog..." the plumber mumbled, rubbing his sore bottom.

Jumping back to his feet, Mario held his closed fist back before suddenly bringing it foward, sending three fireballs towards Sonic in rapid sucession.

It was only when Sonic landed after his Sonic Spin that he noticed the fireball coming forth. Sonic blasted away before that fireball blew the spot he stood, but the other two he failed to notice nailed him off his feet.

While a little burned and airborne, Sonic managed to swing his legs over as his head was facing the ground, and Mario. "See ya dodge this!!"

Spinning again, he then suddenly blasted off at Mario, with his fierce Homing Attack, which is pretty much a Sonic Spin that can lock on to any nearby target in mid-air. But its not gonna be just one Homing Attack. Wither he hits Mario or the ground, Sonic is going to keep on zipping past him, back and forth with his Homing Attack.

To put it in the bluntest terms: Mario got owned. The homing attack repeatedly bounced off the plumber, scoring all three of its hits. The end result sent Mario flying a short distance before landing, and even then, he still slid a few more feet. Slowly but surely, Mario got back up, glaring at Sonic.

"Come on... Try-a that again," Mario taunted, "I dare-a you."

Reaching into his hammerspace pocket, Mario began to pull out a yellow cape. It was time to turn Sonic's speed against him... Literally.[rand=02318661421128493419780090593874598480425331446158018762264174825]

After he landed from his Spin Attack, while skidding forward thanks to inertia, Sonic looked back and smirked, "Oooo sounds like a challenge!"

He left a sonic-boom as he came right back at Mario with another Homing Attack.

Krystal was amazed at the two duking it out, she felt her heart pounding just looking at the action. "Amazing...Fox was right about these two, so unreal..." The fox had never laid her eyes on real fights before, she mostly focused on Fox hoping he would make it out ok; but this is a different story.

Mario stood still and waited as Sonic dashed at him. He needed to wait until just the right moment...

Suddenly, sensing that it was time, Mario pulled out his cape and whipped it at the incomming blue cannonball.

It worked! Despite all odds, the fabric of the yellow cape withstood Sonic's spinning body, flipping the hedgehog around a complete 180 degrees. Now, he was blasting off at the speed of sound... In the opposite direction.[rand=880951914078569881079694953072630255558478023995568135680591568783]

"YAAAHHH!!!" though he ceased his Spin, but he couldn't stop himself from flying towards the edge of the field. That was the problem with Sonic; he never thinks before he acts, and other than being challenged in races (Since he's not into that.), Sonic just can't resist a challenge, which is why he's in this predicament.

But there was one thing he's good at; thinking fast. Tails upgraded his shoes to be equipped with these pellets in his heels that turns into Star Springs. Though he uses them to save himself from falling into pits (His mortal enemy), by activating them under him, Sonic found another way.

Still flying, Sonic quickly held up his foot to pop out a pellet from his heal, and tossed hard to keep from getting blown back. The pellet turned into a spring just in time or Sonic flip his feet for it and launch him like a pinball.

And speaking of pinball, Sonic once again became one, hurtling right back at Mario as fast as a cannonball. "Goes around, comes around, and back around!"

The crowd went wild at Sonic quick second come back, just as wild May was, cheering. "WHOOOO!!!"

Blaziken was stoked as she was, but in a calmer sense, holding up a fist of excitement.

Glaceon turned away, looking a little jealous at Sonic's speed.

Mario expected that Sonic would try to recover and thus was not surprised as he sidestepped the incomming hedgehog as he shot himself back onto the arena. If he was going keep Sonic off the stage, he'd have to stop him in midair.

And he knew just the move to do that.

Crouching down, Mario watched as a giant, backpack-shaped water pump appeared in his back; it was his trusty F.L.U.D.D. One shot from its high-powered water nozzle, and Sonic (who hated water to begin with), would be blown off the stage with no hope of recovery.
