Ness Sententia
Game of Origin:
Earthbound (SNES)
Nicknames:
Nessie (only used by his sister)
Age:
12
Species:
Human
Gender:
Male
Alignment:

Type:
MiddleWeight

Onett Suburbs
Personal Relationships (optional):
LUCAS
The power of PK transcends time and space to bring together two heroes from centuries apart. Lucas and Ness met during the Subspace War and have been friends ever since; together, they can team up for powerful combo attacks, and perform the Double Starstorm with a Smash Ball.
Occupation:
Being 12 years old, Ness isn’t allowed to have a job. However, he has a steady source of income in the form of his father’s allowance payments.
Moveset:
PROPERTIES
-Ness is of average weight, but most of it is centered in his overlarge head. This makes him somewhat prone to falling over, but he can use PSI power to steady himself if necessary, making him less accident-prone than Lucas.
-Through the power of PSI, Ness can levitate himself to make his jumps not only higher, but floatier. He stays in the air longer than most people, and is more vulnerable to anti-air attacks as a result. On the other hand, said floatiness also gives the boy a chance to use his aerials more. The average vertical distance of Ness’s jumps is twice his height.
-Ness’s second jumps are somewhat odd; he backflips while jumping forward and frontflips while jumping backwards. When questioned about this, he replies that it is the method he’s most used to for second-jumping.
-Being young, Ness is shorter than most Smashers and would normally only come up to Mario’s chin. However, he was resized when he was reborn into This World, and is now as tall as Mario is.
-Ness wears a backpack at all times. This is where he stores his inventory, as well as various pickups such as Stickers and CDs.
SPECIALS
<Neutral Special: PK Flash>
The PK Flash is a technique originally intended for stunning and dizzying enemies. Ness has modified it a bit, making it much more powerful and potent.
Ness throws out a ball of green psychic energy at the beginning of this move; as time passes, the ball becomes larger and starts drifting towards the ground. At any time, Ness may release his hold on the ball and let it explode in a brilliant fireworks display, doing heavy damage to nearby opponents.
-Ness can explode the ball early; but when he does so, its destructive power is decreased.
-The ball moves very slowly and takes a while to explode; quick opponents can dodge it with ease.
-Ness cannot move or perform any attacks while he is controlling the ball.
-The ball cannot travel lower than the height Ness was at when he began the move.
-At maximum power, PK Flash does 32 damage and can KO moderately-damaged opponents.
<Up Special: PK Thunder>
Ness learned this move from his traveling companion, Paula. It allows him to actively control a ball of blue electricity and move it around at will. If Ness maneuvers the ball so that it collides with him, he turns into a human projectile and rockets forward in the direction the ball hit him at.
-While using the PK Thunder on himself, Ness does heavy one-hit damage to any opponents he hits.
-The PK Thunder is Ness’s Third Jump.
-If the PK Thunder ball hits a solid object, it vanishes – making it dangerous to use this as a third jump in an area with lots of platforms.
-Using this move in the air wears Ness out, making him unable to move until he hits the ground.
-If the PK Thunder hits an object while Ness is on the ground, there is a brief cooldown period while Ness shakes off its effects and returns to reality.
<Side Special: PK Fire>
PK Fire is another move that Ness learned from Paula. It allows him to shoot out a tiny bolt of lightning that becomes a raging pillar of flame if it hits a solid object.
-The lightning bolt has a limited range. If it does not hit anything within twenty feet, it fizzles out of existence.
-The fire pillar traps enemies for accumulative damage, doing at least five hits and setting them aflame.
-Ness can spam this move to trap his enemies in a similar fashion to using a Paper Fan.
-In the air, Ness’s PK Fire travels downwards at a -45 degree angle.
<Down Special: PK Magnet>
The PK Magnet allows Ness to absorb projectile attacks and heal himself. It creates a circular barrier around Ness; if energy-based projectile attacks such as Fox’s Laser or Samus’s Charge Beam hit this barrier, their destructive power is converted into healing energy that rejuvenates Ness.
-The barrier does not affect solid projectiles such as Samus’s missiles.
-When Ness ends this move, the barrier turns into electrical energy and dissipates. If opponents are standing next to Ness during this time, they will be zapped.
-Ness cannot move or attack while he maintains the PK Magnet shield around himself.
-The PK Magnet halts all of Ness’s forward momentum, both in the air and on the ground.
SMASH ATTACKS
<Up Smash: Rising Sun>
The Yoyo was one of Ness's primary weapons during his adventure in EarthBound. For this particular move, Ness extends his yoyo in front of him, then swings it back above his head in a wide arc, finishing the move with his yoyo behind himself.
-The move begins charging when the yoyo is extended in front of Ness.
-Only the yoyo itself deals damage; the string is harmless. Small enemies can avoid this move entirely by standing right next to Ness, letting the yoyo pass over their heads.
<Side Smash: Home Run Swing>
Ness doesn't need a Home Run Bat -- he's brought his own! This is another of the kid's primary weapons from EarthBound. The move is simple -- Ness pulls the bat out of his backpack and takes a big swing with it directly in front of himself. WHAM!
-There is a small wind-up time for this move which makes it slower than Lucas's side smash. However, it is also more powerful than said move.
<Down Smash: Walk The Dog>
Ness uses his yoyo again for this move. He extends the weapon behind himself, then pulls forward so that it travels horizontally past him and extends in front of him. Then Ness pulls the yoyo back to him and the move ends.
-This move begins charging when the yoyo is fully extended behind Ness.
-Again, only the yoyo itself does damage.
Final Smash:
PK STARSTORM
Ness’s friend Poo learned this move after a grueling training regime in the far-off land of Dalaam. Over the years, Ness has slowly mastered it as well. It summons meteors from space, forcing them to crash down onto the battlefield. Ness’s psychic control over them allows him to remain unharmed as they fall, but all opponents impacted by them will feel the pain.
-Unlike Lucas’s version of this move, in which meteors fall inwards toward the center of the battlefield, Ness’s meteors fall outwards from the center of the battlefield in a wide fan-shape.
-The amount of meteors summoned is random, and can range anywhere from 1 to 20. A die roll determines the exact number.
Weaknesses:
-Ness is prone to headaches. They usually occur after he has overused his PSI powers too much, and can be debilitating, making him unable to continue fighting.
-Unless he uses a Smash Ball to increase his strength, Ness’s telekinesis powers have extremely limited range.
-Being psychic doesn’t make one a genius. Ness still needs to go to school like every other kid.
-Ness isn’t a telepath. In theory, it is possible he could gain such powers, but he has expressed no desire to do so.
-Arenas such as Skyworld and Mushroomy Kingdom are dangerous for Ness; unless he carries Wet Towels with him, he can faint from heatstroke.
-Ness tends to get homesick. A lot. The prospect that he may never see his family again now that he is a trophy in This World is a heavy burden on him. He usually tries to avoid thinking about the topic.
Personality:
Ness is kind-hearted and good-natured. He values his family and friends above all other things and cherishes the time he spends at home. He’s always willing to lend a hand (or psychic powers) to those in need, and is willing to make sacrifices for the greater good if necessary.
Ness is also modest. Despite the fact that he and his friends saved the world from destruction by aliens once, the lad prefers to shrug off the adventure as no big deal. Unfortunately, his PSI powers are somewhat more difficult to downplay, and Ness avoids using them to their fullest extent very often for fear of being outcast and ostracized.
Despite being 12, Ness is quite emotionally mature. He grew up a lot during his adventure to save the Earth and as a result, he has confidence in himself and can deal with pain and loss much better than he used to. This is part of the reason why he was willing to sacrifice himself for Lucas during the Subspace War.

WARNING. SPOILERS BELOW.
EARTHBOUND
Ness was your average 10-year-old, watching Saturday morning cartoons and cursing the existences of both girls and baths, when one day a meteor crash-landed near his house. After that, odd happenings began to occur in his hometown…animals went crazy and started attacking people, rumors of monster sightings spread like wildfire, and all electronics began turning on and off at random intervals.
Ness set off to find the source of the problems and found a talking bumblebee named Buzz-Buzz, who claimed to be from the future and identified Ness as the world’s only hope to avoid catastrophe. Ness was prepared to dismiss the bee as some sort of odd hallucination when he was suddenly attacked by a strange silvery creature.
It identified itself as an agent of “Giygas”, and appeared to know Buzz-Buzz. Its devastating blows brought Ness to the brink of death several times, but Buzz-Buzz kept him alive through what appeared to be healing magic.
Soon Buzz-Buzz had managed to fight the creature off, using powers unlike any Ness had yet seen. Buzz-Buzz informed him that they were not magic but were in fact manifestations of psychic energy, and that furthermore Ness would be able to use them himself, with practice.
Ness visited the house of his neighbor Pokey, to see if he and his family were okay…and in a shocking development that nobody expected, Buzz-Buzz was slain by a single swat from Pokey’s mother. With his dying breath, he charged Ness with the task of finding Giygas and defeating him, before it was too late for the world.
Now alone, Ness set out to track down his mysterious enemy. He traveled to neighboring towns, solving problems along the way and meeting new people, including three brave children all around Ness’s age who joined him in his quest.
Paula was a young master of PSI who was skilled in elemental attacks and healing. She was originally in charge of the Twoson Daycare Center, but when her potential as a PSI expert was discovered by Giygas’ forces, she was kidnapped by the Happy-Happyist Cult and held prisoner in their hidden valley base. Unlike Ness, she does have telepathy, and sent Ness a plea for help during her imprisonment. After he rescued her, she joined his party.
It is rumored that during their journey, Ness and Paula developed romantic feelings for each other.
Jeff was a genius mechanic and the son of famed scientist Dr. Andonuts. He and his father did not have a very close relationship, despite Jeff’s boarding school being no more than a couple miles away from Dr. Andonuts lab, in the country of Winters. At one point when she and Ness were trapped and imprisoned by Giygas’ army, Paula contacted Jeff telepathically and requested his help. He arrived in a flying machine his father built, with another useful machine in hand that unlocked Ness’s and Paula’s prison.
Unlike the other members of the group, Jeff has no latent PSI abilities, but his handy machines more than make up for it in battle. He demonstrated this as an Assist Trophy during the Subspace war; when summoned, he would promptly set off one of his more powerful machines, the Multi-Bottle Rocket, which would target all people on the battlefield except Jeff’s summoner.
Poo was the prince of the Kingdom of Dalaam, in the far east. In his country, inner peace is the greatest goal, and those chosen to ascend to the country’s throne must undertake grueling mental training before they are deemed worthy of it. During Poo’s training, he not only realized his own inner PSI powers, but also received a vision in which he was informed that he, along with three other youths, would be the chosen ones destined to battle for the fate of the world. He teleported to Ness’s group through the power of PSI, told them who he was, and offered them his help.
Poo would later leave the group briefly to complete his training and unlock the ultimate PSI attack, PK Starstorm.
Mr. Saturns are a friendly race of extraterrestrials; they make their home in Saturn Valley, near where Paula was held prisoner. With their help and the expertise of Dr. Andonuts, Ness’s party discovered the location of their enemy; Giygas lay far in the past, directing his troops from thousands of years ago.
After transferring their consciousnesses into robotic bodies that would not be harmed by the adverse effects of time travel, Ness’s group traveled back in time to Giygas’s lair. And who they discovered there, helping their greatest enemy, was none other than Ness’s old neighbor, Pokey.
In terms of personality, Pokey is practically a polar opposite of Ness; rude, obnoxious, selfish, self-centered, bratty, and a general bully towards Ness and his friends. After realizing the truth of what was happening back in Ness’s hometown, Pokey left it for a journey of his own, wherein he assisted Giygas’s forces and hindered Ness’ progress as much as he possibly could, being a constant source of annoyance up until the end.
And what an end it was. Pokey faced Ness’s group in a spidery battle machine, and during the course of the fight, informed them of Giygas’ true identity; the physical embodiment of all hatred and evil in the universe. Giygas was a terrifying thing to behold, and Pokey proved this by showing the group its’ true form.
Holy nuts, indeed.
It was an incredible battle. Despite everything Ness and his friends threw at it, nothing seemed to harm Giygas. On the other hand, its attacks were outside the realm of human comprehension and beyond damaging to the four’s robotic bodies. All hope seemed lost, until…
Paula prayed.
She prayed for help, for guidance, for hope. She prayed to those they’d met on their journey, the friends and family members that had helped them to survive thus far.
And across time…across space…thousands of years in the future, all over the world…they answered.
Suddenly Giygas showed signs of pain. For some reason, the power of the friendships and relationships Ness had built over his journey had a more damaging effect on the being than any physical attack could.
Paula continued to pray, but eventually she ran out of people to pray to. Her pleas for help were swallowed by the darkness…
Then someone else answered.
Someone new. Someone they hadn’t met.
Someone outside their dimension. Someone who hadn’t even realized they were a part of the journey, until that moment.
The player answered.
YOU answered.
And Giygas fell.
SUBSPACE EMISSARY
Ness made his appearance during the Subspace War at the Ruined Zoo. There he saved Lucas from an attack by the Primid, and fought off the Pig King Statue with a fully-powered PK Flash. Wario appeared immediately afterward and tried targeting Ness with his Dark Cannon; when the youth proved too agile for him to hit, he locked onto Lucas instead.
In a courageous display of self-sacrifice, Ness shoved Lucas out of the way and took the blast for him. He was instantly trophied. Lucas fled in terror, and Wario claimed his prize.
Later, Wario found himself ambushed by King Dedede’s Waddle Dee Army. They stole Ness’s trophy from him and added it to the King’s collection.
Dedede, as it turned out, was a secret agent pretending to work for Tabuu. He went around collecting the trophies of fallen heroes and equipping them with special badges of his own design which would revive any trophied person after a set amount of time had passed. This was how Ness found himself revived in Dedede’s castle along with Luigi and the King himself. After that, the trio made their way towards the Entrance to Subspace, for the final battle with Tabuu.
Anything else? (Optional)
Ness has a speech impediment that causes him to sound like he’s constantly speaking Engrish. It is a serious medical problem and his parents are working hard to find a cure for it.

- Double PK Fire – Much like the Ice Climbers’ Down Special, this combo lets Lucas and Ness stand back-to-back and shoot out PK Fires to both sides. Cannot be used in the air.
- Double Starstorm – It’s a combination of both Ness’s and Lucas’s Final Smashes! This attack covers the entire arena, hurling down a thick barrage of comets from above.
