Green Hill Zone, Island of the Ancients (SSE)
Bestiary:
Being Dr. Robotnik's original base of operations, several of his classic Badniks will roam about the stage, aimlessly wandering without a master to serve. It is somewhat sad...in many years they have kept this base running, believing that Dr. Robotnik would return for them someday. The three main Badniks you will encounter are: The infamous Buzzbomber, the original Badnik--Motobug, the digging Burrowbot, who pops up from underground.
(And yes--they are ALL still 16-Bit.)
Appearence:
Act 1
Act 2
Act 3
History
This was Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik's original base in the first Sonic the Hedgehog. Here, he would place the innocent creatures of South Island into robotic shells as a means to power his creations. The stage was divided into three main areas: The perimeter, the lab, and the underground labyrinth. Despite his many traps and his excellent trickery, Sonic ransacked the entire base and chased The Doctor off the island. However, after all this time, Sonic and his friends never got around to removing Scrap Brain Zone from South Island, and so it remained...as well as a small squad of Badniks inside...
Events
As the brawlers duke it out, Badniks roam around the base, their only objective now is what Eggman told them before being forced out by Sonic: Defend this place from intruders and keep everything running. As such, they will randomly come to attack the fighters, and disappear just as quick. After a minute or so, the "Act Complete" sign will drop down into the stage. When this happens, static will fill the screen before fading, putting you in the next Act. The Acts work in this order: Perimeter -> Lab -> Labyrinth -> Perimeter. The each individual area has its own traps and whatnot, but The Lab is by far the most dangerous with its buzz saws, crumbling ground, and flamethrowers.
Anything Else:
This place is an exact replication of the classic final stage from Sonic the Hedgehog, from the 16-Bit backgrounds to the placement of traps. The static based transitions are indeed tribute to the era in which this game was released.
