Name of Location:
Yoshi's Island
Neighboring Locations:
Sauria Region
Bestiary:
Yoshi, Shy-guys, Bowser's minions
Appearence:
Yoshi's island is a vast, dense, brightly colored tropical forest. It is home to many exotic forms of plant life that is said to resemble that of children's drawings, patchwork textures or cardboard dioramas. From a distance it is easily recognized for its three dome-shaped hills whih rise up so high they practically consume the entire ground level. Yoshi's Island is a popular destination for smash tournaments and has hosted many smash arenas through the history of the smash tournament. The first arena was based on a Yoshi's children's legend called "Yoshi's Story" and was built to resemble a giant pop up book with an image of the legendary "Super Happy Tree" in the center. In the Melee tournament, a natural, green, part of the island with pipes and spinning blocks was used as a "Yoshi's Island" stage while a modified "Yoshi's Story" stage featured cardboard trees and patchwork bushes along with the same three platforms and a floating cloud platform named 'Randall.' On this stage, Fly Guys usually hover over the arena to drop food to the combatants.
History:
Yoshi's island is the home, at least in origin, of the Yoshi; multi-colored dinosaurs who play and eat delicious fruit in the sunshine. The tropial nature of the surroundings is made by the sacred and majestic "Super Happy Tree," without which the entire island would wilt and die away, and its denizens would become saddened and disconnected from their minds. The tree was once stolen by Baby Bowser, but has since been returned and not stolen since.
However, Yoshi's island has never been a complete paradise. The remote island is the native home of many familiar baddies, including the native Shy-guys, Blarghs, goombas, and Pihranna plants. Bowser is also fond of the island, as it was his childhood home, and has made many evil plots involivng the island, one even involving time-travel. Bowser's intentions for the natives of Yoshi's Island are often short-lived however, as, even in absense of Mario, Yoshi will always step in to thwart the koopa king.
Events:
The latest version of the Yoshi's island stage takes place on a flower patch of a high plateau. There is one long horizontal platform in the center that tips like a seesaw. The seasons change rapidly on this stage from spring to summer, fall to winter, though this has little effect on the battle. Like the Melee tournament stage, this stage features Fly guys who appear to leave food to the combatants, but instead of Randall the cloud, two ghosts pop up holding platforms on their heads in attempt to save falling opponents.
