Game of Origin:
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii, GC)
Nicknames:
Doggie, Fido, Rover, Inu-kun (all very much hated nicknames forced upon him by Midna)
Age:
17
Species:
Hylian
Gender:
Male
Alignment:
Good
Type:
Middleweight
Residence:
Ordon Village
Occupation:
Goat Wrangler and Part-Time Hero
Moveset:
PROPERTIES
-Link carries a lot of heavy equipment around. This added weight causes him to fall faster than his overall stature would suggest.
-Link’s jumping ability is average, about as good as Mario’s.
-Link carries a shield on his right arm at all times during battle. It nullifies all energy-based projectiles, but does not do any good against solid projectiles such as Snake’s missiles or Waddle Dee.
-Link’s attacks do decent damage, but he is not the fastest character around; some of his moves have built-in delays that make it risky to overuse them.
SPECIALS
Neutral Special: Hero’s Bow
This weapon was once used by the legendary Hero of Time; it was given to Link by the Gorons as thanks for assisting them. Link uses standard arrows with this bow for a projectile attack.
-Link has a finite amount of arrows. Once his quiver is empty, he cannot use this move.
-Link’s arrows travel further depending on how long he draws back the bowstring before releasing. The longer he pulls, the farther it’ll fly.
-Unlike Fox’s lasers, Link’s arrows travel in an arc until they hit the ground.
-Link can collect and re-use arrows he has already shot, if they’re not buried too deeply into whatever surface they hit.
Up Special: Spin Slash
Link was taught this fighting move by his father shortly before his parents were killed. He rapidly spins in place with his sword held out in front of him, damaging opponents on all sides.
-Link can charge this move for up to three seconds to do more damage upon releasing it.
-If Link uses this move in the air, the force generated by his powerful swings will propel him upwards like a helicopter’s blades. However, this takes a lot of energy to do (especially with Link’s weight) and it makes Link too tired to move afterwards until he hits the ground.
Side Special: Gale Boomerang
This magical boomerang contains the spirit of the Fairy of Winds, which allows it to summon up a miniature cyclone whenever it is thrown. It also returns to its thrower like any other boomerang, preventing Link from needing to go fetch it after every toss.
-While the Gale Boomerang is returning to Link after being thrown, the cyclone it creates sucks items and opponents towards Link.
-The boomerang’s range is approximately six meters; Link doesn’t have the arm strength to toss it further than that.
-The magic contained within the Boomerang allows it to home in somewhat on Link’s current position while it is returning to him. However, this homing is not very precise, and Link can indeed miss catching the boomerang if he moves too much or is knocked out of the way.
-If Link misses catching the Gale Boomerang, it will fly off into space behind him at high speed and he will have to wait a brief amount of time before the Fairy of Winds realizes his dilemma and teleports the Boomerang back to him.
Down Special: Bombs
These spherical explosives were created by the weapons expert Barnes, who dwells in Kakariko Village. They’re quite a blast.
-After Link pulls out a bomb, he can either toss it immediately or hold on to it for a while. The bomb will explode in his hands and damage him if he waits too long.
-Opponents can catch tossed bombs and throw them back at Link to harm him.
-Link has a finite supply of bombs; he cannot use this move after he has run out of them.
Down Special (Alternate): Transform
This move replaces Link’s Bombs when he is in a Team Battle with Midna as his ally. It turns Link into his Wolf form so Midna may ride on his back.
-There is a two-second delay while Link transforms; he cannot be harmed during this time, but he cannot attack or move, either.
-When Link uses this move, Midna automatically teleports over to his current position so she can get onto his back.
STANDARD MOVES
A Combo: Link slashes horizontally twice, then stabs forward. This combo only has three hits.
A Up: Link swings his sword over his head in a wide arc. It is possible for him to hit foes behind him with this move.
A Forward: Link chops the air in front of him with his sword.
A Down: Link swipes the Master Sword through the air just above the ground in front of him.
SMASH ATTACKS
Up Smash: Link swings the Master Sword above his head three times, spinning in place on the third swing. This move is a three-hit combo, with the final hit being the most powerful.
Forward Smash: Link lunges forward as he performs two powerful swings with the Master Sword. Though this move is a two-hit combo, Link can choose to not swing a second time; there is also a delay between the swings as Link builds up strength for his next strike.
Down Smash: Link performs a sweep on the ground around him with his sword, swinging in front of himself first and following up with a swing behind himself.
AERIALS
Neutral Aerial: Link kicks in front of himself. This move does moderate damage initially and small damage afterwards.
Back Aerial: Link turns around to kick twice behind himself. The second kick is more powerful than the first.
Up Aerial: Link points his sword upwards above his head, allowing any opponents above him to stab themselves upon it.
Forward Aerial: Link spins in the air, slashing low once and high once with the Master Sword. This move is a two-hit combo.
Down Aerial: Link stabs downward with the Master Sword, allowing gravity and his own weight to put extra force behind it. This is Link’s strongest attack, but it has a significant delay if Link hits the ground while using it, as he must pull the sword back out of the surface it gets embedded in.
GRABS
Clawshot
The Clawshot is a mechanical contraption that combines the principles of a grappling hook with those of a gun. It involves a hooked claw connected to the end of a spring-loaded retractable chain. Link can shoot the claw out to grab objects or surfaces and then retract the chain, either pulling them closer to him (in the case of items and opponents) or pulling him closer to them (in the case of surfaces and ledges).
-Link can use his Clawshot in midair to grab the edges of platforms from far away. It can also damage opponents while used like this, but there is a delay after the Clawshot is deployed in the air before Link can reel it back in; so if he misses the edge of the platform with it, he’s pretty much hosed.
Grab Attack: Link smacks the handle of the Master Sword into his opponent’s head for blunt damage.
THROWS
Back Throw: Link places the opponent behind his body before mule-kicking them away.
Up Throw: Link tosses the opponent above his head and follows up with a slash from the Master Sword, sending them skywards.
Forward Throw: Link pulls the opponent in close before soccer-kicking their crotch. (Ouch.)
Down Throw: Link tosses the opponent onto the ground underneath himself and falls on them, slamming his elbow into their throat.
Final Smash:
TRIFORCE SLASH
A beam of light emerges from the Triforce mark on the back of Link’s left hand. If this beam hits an opponent, they become trapped between two rotating images of the Triforce while Link goes to town on them with the Master Sword. The move ends with a final massive slash that shatters both images of the Triforce and sends the opponent flying.
-Link must be on roughly the same horizontal plane as his opponent in order to hit them with the beam of light from his hand.
-The beam of light from Link’s hand cannot hit opponents farther than a couple meters away.
-If the beam of light from Link’s hand misses his opponent, this move cannot be used.
-If the beam of light from Link’s hand hits more than one opponent, all of them will be trapped within the two Triforces and be subject to Link’s attack.
-This attack is a huge multi-hit combo that pretty much guarantees a KO at any damage percentage if it hits the opponent.
Weaknesses:
-Link HATES lava. The heat is nigh-unbearable underneath all of his heavy clothing and chainmail. Furthermore, he cannot help but imagine the horrible deaths he would suffer should he fall into it.
-Link has a phobia of drowning. He strongly dislikes holding his breath while diving underwater, and though he’ll reluctantly agree to tread water or swim on the surface if it’s absolutely necessary, he refuses to actually dive unless he first gets equipped with a way to breathe while submerged (i.e. Zora Tunic).
-Link’s silent attitude makes him seem somewhat distant and impersonal at times. He’s a difficult guy to become friends with, but those who manage it will receive a valuable and loyal ally in return.
-Though Link is generally kind and good-natured, he has an annoying tendency to “follow his heart” and stubbornly refuse any alternate course of action. This has gotten him on the bad side of more than one City Guard over the years.
-Link has an unhealthy obsession with collecting items he calls “heart containers”. These magical artifacts fill him with an invigorating surge of energy that allows him to fight longer and harder than before, the equivalent of a spiritual sugar rush. The drawback is that they are quite addictive and Link has been slipping dangerously close to a state of dependency ever since he discovered the things.
Personality:
Past Links have been chivalrous, lawful, dutiful, selfless, and adventurous. This one is none of those things.
Link has a neutral and unconcerned nature that belies a more bestial personality underneath. His wolf form is more appropriate for him than he realizes; like a wolf, he is alarmingly fierce in battle, quick to anger, and wild in bringing his ire to all who deserve it. Also like a wolf, he is extremely protective of those he considers kin, which includes the members of Ordon village and their children. His wild nature is impossible to control, and he usually bucks any and all authority which attempts to impose itself upon him. (Midna is a rare case in which said authority actually succeeded, by winning his trust and friendship over time; he now views her as less of an authority figure and more of a partner.)
This Link is more selfish than past variations. What he wants out of life is simple; to protect those he loves. He is not eager to ditch home and go off adventuring like a shining knight out of a fairy tale; if Zelda's problems weren't so interconnected with the welfare of Ordon Village, Link would choose to completely ignore them and remain at home, happily tending to the goats for the rest of his days while saying "screw you" to the rest of Hyrule.
Link dislikes being put in the spotlight and made to be an idolized hero of legend. If given the choice of whether or not to wield the Triforce of Courage, he would promptly reject it. The perfect life for him is a quiet one, taking care of himself and his own; he has no desires to explore distant lands or defend the front lines of the Hyrule Army in glorious battle.
Link hated Midna at first. If he hadn't been keenly aware of how easily she could fry his brain with a well-placed bolt of magic, he would have ditched her at the first opportunity. Luckily for them both, his attitude towards her changed after her own attitude towards him defrosted as well, midway through their adventure. They now view each other as partners in this journey, and though he is loathe to admit it, Link has since grown fond of the little imp and her acerbic nature.
Link reflects Midna's personality in a few ways. Like her, he tends to stray towards sarcasm and biting wit when tossed into a situation his dislikes. Seeing as he dislikes this whole Goddess-mandated adventure and how it separates him from those he's vowed to protect, he's wound up displaying this attitude quite a bit lately.
Link views all of Hyrule's races (and genders) with equal neutrality. The way he sees it, everyone looks the same with a Bokoblin blade rammed through their throat, so why discriminate while they're still alive? He doesn't mind the attitudes of individuals like Ashei in the slightest, seeing her in particular as being quite intelligent for choosing to improve her combat and tactical skills rather than conforming to a Victorian-esque view of women -- and if that caused her to wind up a bit rude, so what? She's just trying to survive like everyone else, and he can't fault her for being intelligent about it. Such individuals are A-OK with Link so long as they remember to avoid threatening him or his extended family of villagers.
Should someone be stupid enough to try such a thing, they would discover very quickly that they have a serious problem on their hands; Link remembers grudges. Cross him once, and you will always find yourself faced with a dangerous enemy whenever you venture south of Hyrule's borders.
It's not easy to insult Link so severely, however. He has no preconceptions of ideas such as honor and pride, and is more likely to ignore a man who insults him than to stand up and demand a duel. He's also the worst politician you will ever meet, since he absolutely refuses to abide by etiquitte or diplomacy of any sort. He says what he thinks and means what he says, should one actually succeed in getting the words out of him.

Woolen white long-sleeve undershirt and long pants of the same material, followed by a short-sleeve chainmail shirt, which is then covered by a thick green tunic of densely-woven fibers, secured by a belt around his waist. He carries all of his equipment either on this belt or slung across his back. Both of his hands are covered by leather gauntlets with metal fastenings, and his right hand has additional leather covering the top for falconry purposes. His boots are also leather and he has pierced ears, which are fashionable in Ordon.
History:
Many, many years ago, a group of brave and valiant knights protected the royal family of Hyrule. Their skill and bravery were unsurpassed on the battlefield, and all soldiers within the kingdom's army aspired to match their greatness.
But the providence of such times did not last, for a great war broke out between the varying races of the Kingdom. Families were torn apart, widows were made, and the Knights were all but obliterated in the line of duty. Of the remainder, only one ever sired a child...and that child's bloodline gave rise to some of the most influential figures in Hyrule's history. It has become tradition for boys within this bloodline to be named Link, in honor of that brave knight who survived to protect the monarchy so long ago.
More recently (as in, over a hundred years ago), a foul villain named Ganondorf threatened the kingdom through the capture and usage of a mystical item of power. A young boy named Link rose up to defeat the fiend...and in so doing captured the heart of young Princess Zelda, who was next in line to inherit the throne at the time. Their love was a forced secret, since Link's peasant status forbade him from an open relationship with nobility of any sort. Eventually Zelda became pregnant despite their caution, and the King, outraged at his daughter's actions, banished Link from the country and ordered him to never return, on punishment of death. Zelda was wedded to another man and the child she'd had with Link was sent to be with his father.
Link settled in the woodlands south of Hyrule, where he felt most comfortable, and sought to raise his son as best he could, teaching the boy all he knew about swordsmanship and archery. This tradition continued for a hundred years, as the Knight's Line bore men of unquestionable inner strength and valor, and women of keen intellect and sharp wit.
Fast-forward one hundred years to the present day. The woodland area where the previous Link had lived has now been annexed into Hyrule as Ordona Province, and the site where the Link of old built his house has grown into a village, called Ordon. Here the latest successor to the Knight's Line lives and dwells; his name is also Link.
The new Link was orphaned at age twelve when a flash flood washed away his parents' house, and them with it; at the time, Link was an apprentice goat wrangler and was assisting the village's ranch hand, Fado, with getting the animals to higher ground before they perished. The news of his parents' death hit Link hard and deeply affected him; even to this day, he retains a phobia of meeting the same end that his parents did.
Link continued life in the village as a goat wrangler, honing his skills at herding the beasts and graduating from apprenticeship at age sixteen. He later built a new house for himself just outside the village boundaries, and served part-time as a transporter of goods from the village to the marketplace in Hyrule Castletown, many miles away. Epona became his horse of choice for such trips after their childhood encounter and his subsequent raising of her from foal to adulthood.
~NOW ENTERING THE REALM OF SPOILERS. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK~
Link's world crashed to a halt one day when one of the village's children was kidnapped by monstrous beasts called Bobokins. Such monsters were uncommon outside of Hyrule, and never had they attempted such daring actions before. Link rescued the child after a fierce battle and breathed a sigh of relief, believing the conflict to be over.
He was wrong.
A new enemy emerged the next day; King Bulbin, an ugly and bloated beast who rode a monstrous boar named King Bulbo. He attacked Link and kidnapped not only the village children, but also Link's childhood friend Ilia, who was the daughter of the village's mayor. Link gave chase, but at the border of Hyrule discovered a glowing wall of runes that barred his path. A black hand emerged from the wall and pulled him through, into a Hyrule corrupted by Twilight.
Within this realm, Light-dwellers could not stay in their original form. All of them usually became spirits detached from the physical world yet not knowing it. Link, however, was special. A glowing triangle on the back of his left hand appeared, bathing him in light and granting him an altogether different transformation.
Mouth became muzzle. Teeth grew into fangs. Hands collapsed into paws. Knees bent backwards. Fur sprouted everywhere. Within half a second, Link the Hylian had become Link the Wolf.
Link promptly collapsed, rendered unconscious by the shock of his transformation. The monster that had pulled him into the Twilit Realm claimed his body as a prize and dragged him off to be imprisoned.
Luckily, Link was broken out of prison by a sarcastic and quick-witted imp named Midna. Link reluctantly accepted her help in exchange for his freedom, following her orders as they escaped the dungeon of what turned out to be Hyrule Castle, in the center of the kingdom. Under Midna's guidance, Link located Princess Zelda and learned a little bit more about the situation; Zelda's throne had been ursurped by an offworlder named Zant, who used powerful magics and evil monsters to invade and conquer Hyrule.
At this point Link and Midna were forced to escape once again, as guards came to check onZelda's condition. Midna revealed that she was capable of teleportation between various spots within Hyrule, and transported them down to Ordona Province in this fashion.
There, Link was charged with a new task; to free Hyrule from the twilight plague by restoring the kingdom's four Light Spirits which kept the realm safe from such corruption. In short order, he'd accomplished this task with the Ordona Spirit, and discovered to his delight that he could return to hylian form after the twilight had been banished from the province. The first time he did so, a new surprise awaited him; no longer was he wearing his wrangler clothing, but was now shod in a new set of battle-ready clothing which the Ordona Light Spirit claimed had been worn by Link's ancestors, including the legendary Hero of Time.
Since then, Link has roamed Hyrule's lands, restoring the kingdom to it's state of light and plunging into perilous dungeons in search of three powerful mystical artifacts called Fused Shadows which Midna ordered him to find. Eventually they succeeded, only to be foiled at the last second by Zant, who used his magic to turn Link back into wolf form within the Light World and nearly killed Midna by exposing her to the soul-searing glare of one of Hyrule's Light Spirits. Trapped as a wolf and with a dying imp on his back, Link desperately sought out Princess Zelda's help, back up in the highest tower of Hyrule Castle where they'd left her.
Midna had resigned herself to death; her only desire was for Zelda and Link to continue where she could not, by finishing the job of overthrowing Zant and restoring her people to their normal forms. Zelda, in a moment of compassion, chose to give Midna much more than that. She sacrificed her physical body and granted its essence of light to Midna, enabling the imp to tolerate the brightness of the Light World without being killed.
Now severely indebted to Hyrule's former ruler, Midna vowed to help Hyrule's plight as well as her own kingdom's. She and Link traveled to the mysterious Lost Woods on Hyrule's southern border in search of the infamous Master Sword, a mystical blade whose power to banish all evil would surely assist Link in breaking the curse Zant had placed on him which trapped him in wolf form indefinitely.
Short version: they found it, and it worked.
After that, a new task awaited the duo; to travel to the Twilight Realm and face Zant in battle. They did so, facing the fiend within Midna’s former home, the Palace of Twilight. Link defeated him in singular combat and Midna performed the finishing blow, killing the traitorous Twili.
Unfortunately, their journey was not yet over. Before he’d died, Zant had revealed to them the mastermind behind the Twilight’s invasion into Hyrule; Ganondorf, the same villain from a hundred years ago who had returned to continue his evil plans for Hyrule’s conquest. Link and Midna set out to find Ganondorf and end the threat he posed, once and for all.
~SPOILERS END HERE~
A portal within the Lost Woods has led Link and Midna to This World, where they believe Ganondorf to have escaped while he gathers new minions to aid his foul cause and forms new strategies for another attempt at Hyrule’s throne. Link plans to use the local Super Smash Brothers Tournament as a means to search for and destroy the fiend.
Anything else? (Optional)
Link’s a strong and silent type of guy. He avoids talking whenever possible and becomes even more silent than usual around people he dislikes, using short and pointed answers when he he’s forced to give some sort of reply. If he is comfortable around a person, he will become more willing to relax and speak freely, but he still wouldn’t be nearly as talkative as an average person would.
Link tends to make up for this lack of verbosity by thinking. A lot. About a great many things.
